XEN, Open VZ or KVM?

It is not always about the best solution for vps Servers but what you want openvz tends to be oversold although xen and kvm can be oversold it is usually more stable and reliable than a openvz container. When we start offering vps services they will be either kvm or xen we are testing both and have not fully decided on which to go with at the moment. KVM is newer than xen and seems to be a bit more powerful and supported a bit more.

I too have read that article and found myself in same confused situation. Then I did some more research and finished with KVM as best option.

We chose to build LSN Cloud using KVM virtualization. We went this route because of how well it integrates with the hypervisor's kernel. The UnixBenchmark was faster on our hardware with KVM than it was with Xen.

Xen is superior to me - there are circumstances where KVM could be preferred, but Xen's blend of performance and security/stability works best for production and mission-critical servers.

I like KVM a little more. What I like is that it's built into the mainstream Linux kernel and it takes advantage of all the kernel facilities in order to maintain law and order on the host environment.

I've been very happy with the way it performs so I have it deployed on all my VPS hostnodes.

I prefer Xen it's nice and easy, I have not had the opportunity to try the others, have messed around with ESXi and Hyper V for windows VM's in the past

OpenVZ are fairly cheap, but they can be easily oversold, on the other hand XEN is a little more expensive, and they can't be oversold, XEN also provides you with access to use your own kernel whilst with OpenVZ that isn't an option as you have to use the main server's kernel.

I've used Xen for years, so it's the one I'm most comfortable with. I will give KVM some more time to mature before I make the switch. OpenVZ is great if you plan to oversell (I'm personally not a big fan!)

What is the best?

OpenVZ is container-based virtualisation platform for Linux. OpenVZ provides users with speed and scalability. It is the most popular. OpenVZ gets a bad name for stability sometimes...

Xen is a secure, high-performance virtual machine monitor (VMM). Xen can securely execute multiple virtual machines, each running its own OS on a single physical system. Shortly, with XEN you will get what you pay for.

KVM is a full hardware virtualisation platform with loadable kernel modules, allowing users to run a range of Linux distros with any kernel. Each virtual machine has private virtualised hardware including network card, disk and graphics adapter. Shortly, with KVM you will get guaranteed resources!

We use OpenVZ or go straight to dedicated.

OpenVZ is easier for us to manage and make templates for.

We don't oversell memory or disk space and have small number of servers on a node (8 is the maximum, but usually 4 or less), so we would challenge people saying that Xen or KVM gives better performance.

Yes, if you go to a bargain basement host, don't be surprised if you experience poor performance.
There is usually a reason why a host can offer you a lot for very little.

By my experience I recommend to you XEN and OpenVZ. They are absolutely perfect and their panels include everything that you might need.

I believe you are talking just to advertise or to do politics. Come back to reality !!!

It is not a question of good or bad, it is what clients need the VPS for.
There are so many discussions about this and is not so simple to give an answer in a few words.

Many VPS providers are selling like Walmart is selling, quantity not quality.

But of course, using your words "There is usually a reason why a host can offer you almost nothing for high price !!!"

Openvz or XEN is preferred. They both have their benefits and disadvantages as anything does - just completely depends on how you'd manage your servers.
