Would you want a fixed SLA for registry-level DNS holds?

InternetNZ’s proposed .nz Protective Hold raises an operational question for providers.

Some new registrations could remain outside DNS while DNC verifies the holder and registration data. A successful check should end the hold as soon as practically possible, but the draft doesn’t define a maximum duration.

If you were reselling .nz, would you be comfortable without a fixed SLA, or would that make support and provisioning too unpredictable?

We can't really manage customer expectations without a clear timeline. If a new .nz registration gets stuck in validation then customers would blame us when their site or email is offline. Even just a small time of 48 or 72 hours would give us a reliable window to communicate to our users.

Agreed. And if it takes longer than 72 hours, even a quick status update would help. The reseller is the one getting all the "why isn't my domain working?" messages from customers.
