Hi all,
First of all thanks for all your sympathy.
Sorry to hear about your problems. But did you just come to this forum to complain or have you done research about your host before?
yeah I did.. look my knowledge (as many other webmasters I guess) is about webdesign, php + mysql, markting and some SEO (I've done a specific Master in IT with eService minor).. My knowledge about the webserver, mail servers etc etc is not that big. I can setup a apache server in a very basic form and will manage to install a Mysql server next to it but again all very very basic.
I've dealt with multiple hosting companies (including Bluehost for example) but well I kinda outgrew them because of the 'bad neighboors' issue. Especially on bluehost I got kicked of the Mysql (time outs) all the time which caused very slow pages (and trust me all my queries are very much optimized and the tables are optimized also; not all BCNF but close enough)
Also many people mention the price 1.95$ a month, well when I got there the price was 9.95$ just a bit more expensive as I had with Bluehost I remember. I got with them because I was looking for a setup where I could mirror my site on multiple locations around the world to speed up the site and download for all our customers. And as mentioned such functionality is above my knowledge grade for setting this up myself so I was happy to find them as there aren't many hosters that offer this.
In conclusion yeah with this experience I want to warn other webmasters to be careful and well dig into it to arrange something like that setup yourself or HIRE another professional which I did to perfect my 2 dedicated cloud servers at VPS.net (whom are thus far awesome btw), 1 in UK and 1 in the US with realtime Mysql Sync, rsync setup etc etc.
I know I've been stupid not to have a daily back-up of my database which has been a once-in-a-lifetime mistake, I guess I trusted the hosters too much. The good news however is that they have now finally promised us we are getting the data back. I should have it back by Wednesday so I'm keeping my fingers crossed
. The other good news is that however it took almost 1.5 week, the normal sales figures and visitor numbers have returned to normal.
Best regards,
