I'd be curious to know the actual difference in add-ons offered between the two CMS's. Certainly both can be SEO optimized. I would disagree with your analysisJoomla gives you much more addons, you can even set up an online shop on it. It is also good for SEO (it's developed in this direction) but if you are willing only to start a website with regular content like articles I think you should choose WordPress. It's much easier to use and equally useful.

only because millions of very diverse websites have been launched with WordPress.if you are willing only to start a website with regular content like articles I think you should choose WordPress
I have experience in both too (lucky us) and the one thing I found easier with Joomla was adding schema microdata. The rest goes to WordPress.Hi Steve,
I wrote all of this beacuse I have experience with both of Joomla and WordPress. And WordPress is much, much easier when you want to write a blog, and there is much more SEO friendly addons. When I was using Joomla it was great (but not so easy to use) for ecommerce purpose, but when it comes to blogging - it was a nightmare! In example - there was a problem with proper meta descriptions.
But - it's just only my opinion, Steve
