Will a host that is green effect your decision to buy?

That's a fair question, but let me ask you one thing first. Do you believe in the global warming scam?

Don't get me wrong here. I'm very big on the environment, but there are many more pressing environmental issues than the normal occurrence of climate change.

Global warming is not a religion to believe in or not. It is a scientific fact. :)

The climate IS changing. The planet is fine. Its been here for billions of years and it will continue to exist, change its climate, go through natural cycles, etc. It is the people who are in trouble. The level of ignorance people have in respect to thinking they OWN the planet is beyond my understanding.

But on topic of green hosting: Yes, there are 100% green web hosting providers as there are 100% green data centers powered by renewable sources of energy: wind power, solar power, water power, etc.

Agree 100%. Climate change is a natural occurrence.

On topic, there are some companies that do use 100% green energy from windmills like Burst and Greengeeks.

Ask me a question that shows you have even an ounce of credibility and I will answer.
Until then, answer my original question and perhaps add your evidence of this so called scam.

My goal here is not to debate, but to inform people that there are scams. Anyone can start up a website and ask for money claiming it's for carbon credits, and simply keep all the money.

You made the claim that "Most of these carbon credit companies, take your money, and do very little if anything to promote a green environment"

You asked the question "Do you believe in the global warming scam"

You have backed up neither statement but you don't want a debate.

Are you not prepared or able to back up your words?

I am, but I didn't think this was the place for an open debate. For starters, the burden of proof is on anyone that believes the scam of man made global warming without evidence. The only evidence thus far is a documentary where the methodology has been proven false. The other evidence often used is from the international panel on climate change, which is a political group, i.e. what they say is completely irrelevant.

Furthermore, I can retract the statement "most are scams" and change it to "some are scams" since empirically, it's self evident that some one could do this (has the means) and given that humans are naturally prone to corruption, it would follow that it can happen. I don't care to prove that most or all are scams, but only that some are, and that people should be very cautious of purchasing something intangible.

Right.
So thousands of peer review papers don't have any bearing at all on the reality of climate change.

Next you'll be quoting Christopher Monckton.

Didn't know who Christopher Moncktion was, so I Googled him this morning ... for anyone else living on the dark side, like me :D
Monckton has been in the news in recent months due to his scepticism of global warming. In November 2006, he published in The Daily Telegraph a widely publicized article critical of the prevailing climate change opinions. After U.S. Senators Rockefeller and Snowe wrote a letter to the Chief Executive Officer of ExxonMobil asking him to stop funding scientists who reject global warming, Lord Monckton wrote a letter to the senators reminding them of the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and calling on them to reverse their position or resign. In February 2007, he published an analysis and summary of the IPCC Fourth Assessment Report on climate change.

There are tons of ways a host can go green. Its not only with power and electricity.
Think about at a data center with maybe 30 employees
now think if they used all recycled office goods, toilet paper, earth frendly hand dryers, all the small stuff. And used a very avid recycling program with all the things they would normaly send to the land fill. In one or two years think of all the trees, Which consum carbon (Greenhouse gases) and put out oxygen, that are being saved.

I think that it is very important that a majority if not all hosts catch on to this great idea.

(Given I know there are a handfull of hosts that lie about how "Green" they actually are, but for the ones that stay true GOOD JOB!!!)

Exactly. Its not necessarily something that is going to be do or die per say but its definitely a benefit. And if you drive a hybrid, unplug stuff, the whole nine yards then it would be silly to get a host who leaves the lights on.

Its mainly up to you. If its a major concern for you then sure do it but if its not something you pay much attention to in your everyday life, then its probably not doing much good as your package wont be the sold reason there in business.

Plus keep in mind if you contact them by phone or email you will probably be able to tell whether or not they really are green depending on if there ready to talk forever about it or they respond with a link to ....com/green

"we are pigs but buy clean energy that we don't even use ourselves" .

:smash: Harsh! I think the fact that they are even trying to make a difference counts.

Green hosting services generally balance their carbon footprint by investing in carbon offsetting, or through direct investment in renewable energy sources, such as wind or solar. At least they are accounting for something!
