Why only .com and .net

I got an email from my registrar, informing that, Verisign will increase prices for .COM and .NET domains by July 1, 2010. But why .com and .net? Why didn't they increase prices for .info, .org, .ws, .whatever instead of both TLD's?

Because Verisign only takes care of .com and .net :smash:

Oops, you are right. How stupid I am. I think I am just too upset with the price increase. Do you think they would increase the prices of other TLD's also if they took care of them?

ARe you registering domains with GoDaddy? They love to justify a price increase of the domain names with a higher fees on the registry side... I have seen a lot of people wondering are the new higher prices of domain names reasonable?

You are really a mind reader. I have some domains registered on GoDaddy and plan to register a few more with the registrar. Thanks for the heads up. I should consider another registrar like Namecheap or Domain.com.

Welcome to the overpriced world of Verisign, simple SSL's with a price tag as large as your monthly mortgage. Makes sense right?

Because those two are one of the most useful and important domains on WEB. Aswell org is in fact, but Your company pays more attention on those two and that is justifiable.

Some of my favorite domain registrars are Canvas Dreams (canvasdreams.com) and dotster (dotster.com) - great customer service, good prices, and are in the NW United States!

They don't increase prices for other domains because *.com *.net rules. I see many such price changes in the future especially for com domains.

Maybe the price increase tell us indirectly that there is a great demand for .com and .net domain , massive demand determines the price of domain

If you use a reasonable registrar, you probably will not see an increase in price. Our registrar raised their rates by fifty cents a year, and that is the only increase we've seen in ten years of using them.

Increase of domain prices is like a cold slap to my wallet, so to speak, since I have many domains and I experience jitters down my spine every time GoDaddy sends me a price "warning" message.
