The best company in someone's mind is a service that works fine with lest complaint. Even when it's not working properly for many other people.
 
The best hosting company from an end user perspective would be someone who has the qualities below:

1. Provides one to one attention and interaction to even the smallest of their clients.
2. Has less than 15 minutes ticket response time.
3. Has interactive live chat with 24x7 immediate support available.
4. Has 24x7 phone support. ( toll free preferred )
5. Who can maintain server uptime of 99.9% or more on their servers.
6. Who provides their end users with written escalation matrix and personal contact details of their entire team.

Although it is hard to find such a provider but it would be ideal for an end user to deal with such a company.

We don't provide all this as we are not a hosting company :)
 
but points 3,4 and 6 could apply to your business

To be frank, we stress on implementing all points from 1 to 6, however for different hosting providers to whom we provide tech support.

As far as points 1 to 6 are concerned, I must mention that those were posted simply due to the fact that we find those very important for someone who runs a hosting business .We run different business models as hosting support is not our only service on offer and so we implement points 3,4 and 6 for our business differently. We do SBUs (Small Business Units) for the projects we run and each SBU manager(who manages the project team) is supposed to take care of 24x7 chat/phone communication with the actual client and manage escalations for the project right up to the management level giving the one to one personal attention I referred to in point 1. This is also the reason why we prefer to share our escalation matrix with our actual clients rather than putting it on display in public.
 
I do agree with you. The more complaints we see from a certain provider might want to make us think twice and research more on who are really the best. :)

I would agree except for #6. Personal contact details are not needed as a proper PBX business set-up will push to personal phones without giving the personal info

True to a point, these days i do think a live chat is necessary for a serious web host, but not 24/7 live immediate support. a host can offer 24/7/365 support but not all live support. as support can come in the form of FAQ/Knowledgebase or community forum.

Exactly, why should a client/prospective client need all the contact details of all your staff, as long as your site has a contact form of some kind and the business address/telephone number then this is all that is required
