Hello All,

Which promotion/advertising channels have you found to be most effective for hosting services?

Thank you for participation.

By far.. Posting in hosting forums and word-of-mouth advertising by existing clients. Simply provide top-notch service and customer support and the rest will fall in place. ;)

As others have said, forums and social media primarily. We send the occasional email to web development company's local to where our business is established offering them competitive web hosting plans for their clients (many local web development businesses to us seem buy hosting through different providers, they don't have their own servers).

Hi,

1. Technical Forums : Where you show your technical skills.
2. Social Forums : Where you advertise your services.
3. Online marketing and interaction.
4. Chain marketing (one satisfied client to other).
5. Online advertising agencies.
6. SEO (Make this the priority). Product listing on the top of the search engine.

I think forums are the most effective.

Why do you think so? Please, share your ideas with us. Or is this just another one liner to increase post count?

Forums did not give us any significant increase in traffic. We run accounts on many forums, made several useful contacts with real professionals, got several clients and made quite a bit of money due to their orders - but this all is just about 3% of our monthly income and forum posting did not increase this sum greatly. Feel free to try if you wish - but don't expect wonders, please.

Hi,

The forums are most effective because you share your technical expertise, which is the foremost requirement of any clients and is the most important aspect of attracting the client to you.

Forums are obviously a great way to advertise, I would say good PR and a lot of noise and social media could also help. Having articles written about your company is probably the best way to get the word out-both in terms of SEO & marketing.

If your on a tight budget, do not waste your time with banner ads

I think product /package wise SEO ranking, although its realy difficult to keep ranking on google for such a high value keyword like web hosting:)

Word of mouth.
It is by far the best way in my experience.
Offer a good service, and eventually people will recommend you.

Even better if they're on Twitter and Facebook. That'll get you huge exposure to their followers.

Apart from that, forums and graphical advertisements on said forums.

Also, tweet and pin a product / offer at least once a day - (delete, tweet, pin)

There is a lot of good information here. I've gotten most of my clients simply by talking to people. Sometimes they show up in a few weeks, sometimes in a couple years. It just depends on when they need your service and if they like you. Where ever I go I try to be friendly to people and since having a web hosting company it pays off. The way you present yourself to people is your best advertisement.

Posting on Forums gets you the maximum sales

If your service is good, then it leads to word of mouth promotion.

Social media generates lot of traffic though, but never got a sale so far.

Not generally, it really depends on the marketing budget. A host for example can run a huge sale and market off of forums (offline, affiliates, YouTube, FaceBook etc) generating a huge number of sales - costing a lot of money in the process.

I do agree that when just starting out, forums can be very powerful. But, it is generally good to have a few clients already and some testimonials to back your adverts in forum threads so offline marketing to start with is probably the best bet.
