I'm rather open to which method I use, although most are protected anyhow, but look for specific things:

Do the sellers have any feedback?
Any Reviews?
Look at URL for Spoof / Scam sites
Website condition
Product and Product description
Refund Policy
Most importantly ask questions

The amount of time scam artists spend on scamming legit good folks, if they spend the same effort on an actual business. They'd do better for themselves.
