What do you do when you get spam?

What I usually do is setup a SPAM catcher before getting the emails delivered or PIPED to my ticketing system. That is a lot better than putting it directly to the ticketing system.

Most of the time SPAM will be detected before it reaches my ticketing system. Also if you have WHMCS, you can also set the SPAM control there as well.

So with both this ways, there's quite a lot of spam which gets taken away. Most of the tickets that come in to us are usually legitimate tickets.

If spammer create multiple ticket then first I merge his ticket then I block his email and delete his ticket.

and also I block his IP on my server.

Why do not simply use CAPTCHA? I guess it is the best way to avoid spam with minimum effort.

I think the "authentication first" is good to block spam, the spam is always sent by machine automatically, if your system requires authentication I think it's harder to be spammed.

Generally we would simply delete it after marking it as SPAM, we usually send the record log off to SPAM agencies for further analysis :)

When running a web hosting company, and you start receiving spam and it counts as a ticket and you can't focus on your current clients tickets what do you do? Are there any anti-spam software that can be used?

Kind Regards,

Andrew

Approximately how many tickets per day are you getting that are considered spam?

I think that any spam filter could be used. But you also will need to understand that some emails from your clients or potential clients might be lost.
That might cause bigger problems then dealing with the spam.
