What do you do to stay in shape?

The older I get the harder it is stay motivated about exercise, but I did just convince my wife to let me put a gym in my house (upstairs). The one piece of equipment I think makes me feel better moreso than the rest is the Total Fitness Gym that Chuck Norris advertises.

Yes. Facing the sun and getting energy from SUN. But 50% of time, I do inside house. If you do properly, you feel energy and wont get tired. Or else you will sweat as like other exercises

Well, I go for a run (20-30 min) to get the body warmed up, then I do some push ups, sit ups, and bench press.

I do this 3 times a week and leave the weekends free for a recovery period and to snack on stuff I couldnt snack on during the week :P

I hear that! You know you can actually eat more if you exercise. If I didn't exercise regularly, I'd weigh 400 pounds. LOL.

Just got a gym membership. I think it's important(for me) to get out of the house and do it, also "getting my money's worth" has something to do with it and makes me go :)

When I was in high school, I use to run 8 miles a night in the off season for track.

Once I was out of track the motivation wasn't there because it seems like I was running just to run. Which some days that is good but most of the time it seems pointless.

I find it difficult to work out, working so much. However, like you Steve I have been working on getting motivated to start working out again. You going for the Chuck Norris look?

Chuck Norris look? NO. I do have a Nidan rating in Okinawan Kenpo Karate though. The Total Fitness Gym has been a pleasant surprise - it has really helped in the full range of motion of my shoulders and upper body.

From a nasty car wreck eons or so ago I have some back issues so things like sit ups are not my fancy (anymore, oddly years ago I could do this all day long).

I now feel the age that I am sometimes, but after a wreck & two kids who wouldn't right? :) I still exercise when I can but it would be much easier to give up sleep than give up chocolate. :D

I have the total gym as well and it is a useful thing to have.. can do quite a lot and also comes in handy for lifting free weights too, bench press etc. as long as you don't exceed its max weight limit!

Other than that, lifting 5U storage servers in and out of racks is always a nice workout.. ;)

Just got a bow-flex from my son yesterday and a Joe Weider Olympic Weight Bench (very nice / 280lbs of weights). The bow-flex is not as good as I expected, but it is different, so that's a plus. I don't think I'd use the Total Fitness Gym for lifting free weights on.

I got a nice little gym in my basement. When I get angry I go down there for 1hr or less and hit it over and over. Working out is great. Keeps you in shape and great for getting stress out. :king:

I've been in professional tennis since I was 6 yrs old. Played through college (or university in Russia), although about 2-3 years prior to that point realized I am not an ATP level material, so I stopped playing as much. I still continue and irregularly compete in various tournaments. Although last year I injured myself so I've been on the sidelines since. Lots of therapy and just starting to do cycling more and more.

Rehab can be frustrating, but hopefully you'll be back at it soon. Are you still looking at tennis as your favorite, or has your injury changed that? Cycling? Isn't it still snowing in Canada?

Absolutely. Tennis is a big part of my life and I can't imagine living without it. Every time I get an injury my mood is at its lowest. :)

Reg. cycling, I just cycle around town really. Montreal is the perfect city for that with about 560 km of bike paths built. Its also the first city in North America to introduce cycling as part of its public transit system with Bixi. The system is similar to one in Paris, France.

PS: It probably does snow somewhere in Canada, its been OK for a while in Montreal. Weather is the only factor playing against the cycling idea here.

Montreal and the Bixie look beautiful. It's hard for me to conceptualize km versus miles. I can do the conversion, but I think in miles. One of my best friends played tennis in college (Ol' Miss), but he ran into the back of an 18 wheeler and had to have one ankle fused, thus the end of that. He used to stomp me on the courts after work. But I always outlifted him at the gym.

Injuries can be devastating. I suffered two ruptured achilles tendons (both times the right tendon) - about 13 years ago. That injury set me back years. I can just imagine playing against you in tennis. What's the term for a shut out in tennis?
