Hi there,

I'm curious to know, what are the main things you are looking for, when you a looking for a Dedicated Servers?

Is that the price, location, servers specs, bandwidth included, hardware specifications (newest generation of CPU)? What is the most important for you?

A lot of things to consider actually- a reliable company, the Data Center location, type of support offered (free/paid), price and much more.

Most important factors to be considered are Location of the server , Network Port/speed , Resources given with the server.

Check Reliablitiy, Server Location, Space, Bandwidth 24x7 techsupport, uptime

More than anything else listed here, the specifications that are recommended by the software developer/server specialist.

Apart from this, the location for the target audience (a server in the USA is of no use if the CRM software is being used in India)

And, finally pricing for the combined factor of support/specs/bandwidth/location.

EDIT: I thought this was a new thread. But looks like the discussion is over in March itself. Sorry for the very late reply. Thread somehow showed up in NEW POSTS section.

A dedicated server has many advantages, one of which is reliability. The reason for the stability of a dedicated server is that the system is not shared with any other entity. Improving availability also improves reliability. You may also use a dedicated server to get your own unique IP address.

I’m assuming that you must already be aware of these things before you raised this question. So, I am going to straight away answer your question. The factors that you must take into consideration should be that it must be a reliable company, the Data Center location, network/port speed, its price, type of support, and services offered, and if availing this support is free of cost or you will have to pay something.

Apart from this, spend some time doing a little bit of research so that you opt for the best dedicated server there is in the market right now.

What matters for me the most for a dedicated hosting service is the server specs and location of it. Price of the hosting service should be reasonable as well.

So this thread has new life. What I look for is a combination of all of the above. First, the offer has to correctly match my specific hosting requirements within my budget, and their support has to be superb.

The choice directly depends on:

The size of the databases.
Necessary cramps of the processor.
Required operational memory.
Necessary size of disk space.

Server rental services are provided by both direct owners of the equipment and intermediaries. The first ones have undoubted advantages:

the lowest prices;
make replacement of failed components immediately after customers contact.
A future tenant should definitely cooperate directly with data centers if they are located within the country of his residence. Then you can not be afraid of any problems with the server and payment for the services provided.
Contacting a reseller will be the best solution if the data center is located in another country, and there are language, currency, or legislative differences. Such companies offer their own technical support and monitor the correct operation of the server.

The steps i would follow while buying a server is
data center location, it should be Carrier neutral data center, it must be use green energy in some percentage, price, Response time, agility.

you should see that the provider is providing you quick 24*7 customer support with good data centre. The pricing should be good and not expensive. There are many benefits of dedicated server such as
  1. Enhanced performance and security
  2. Unique IP address
  3. No overhead for purchasing or maintaining equipment
  4. Server resources are not shared

If i am shopping for new dedicated server, i will see the location , because i need to offer multi location for clients. Then the server spec, and hopefully pricing should be affordable.

What is their policy if you need to change your hosting configuration mid-contract? For example, if you start out in a shared server configuration and need to move to a dedicated or VPS environment during your contract term, is that allowed? Are there penalties?
If you get a dedicated server, then it is up to you how you configure it and not the provider, so you may

1) decide just to use the full server for your own use.
2) split the server into several VPS setups
3) set the server up to create reseller /shared accounts.
4) a mixture of all the above

but this has nothing to do with the provider

The main things to consider while choosing a Dedicated Server are -
  • RAM, Storage, Bandwidth
  • Server Location
  • Backup
  • Security
  • 24/7 Support
  • Option for Customization
  • Root Level Access
But most importantly, identify your requirements first.
