What control panel is your fav?

I forgot to say that I also used DA but really didnt like it.
I got it on an account and after about a week or two (Yeah I made my mind up very quickly) I took it off and installed cPanel.
Really dont like DA but I hear they are very good for implementing ideas from users, still really didnt appeal to me.

I think I would be putting DA down the same way Matt likes to slate the rep of cPanel :D

I think most people like CPanel because it is so widely used. I also like Plesk(version 7 looks good) and H-Sphere. Although packed with options, a new user can cause trouble with H-Sphere.

I need to play with Ensim and DirectaAdmin to have a better opinion.

I have mostly used cPanel and ensim but i don't really like any of them. I liked the good old days without any cp. Those days hosting was expensive but you could trust the host more.

desperado, you can still get hosting now without a control panel, and its cheaper than with a control panel ;)

How come you dont like them?
Do you not think it makes managing your site a lot easier?

I have never seen H-Sphere in action, would like to see that, read a post by a member here that uses it and highly recommends it

Hehe and do you not think thats a big problem?
How much is too many at once?

I would prefer cPanel a lot more than ensim, direct admin and plesk for end users but I havent seen the admin side of ensim pro, and I also like the admin panel for cPanel more than that of DA

I really liked what Ensim had to offer, but cPanel provides that great and logical interface that users tend to like. I had some limited experience (only about a month) with H-Sphere and although this was a while back, it was not that good then. I'm sure things have improved now though because I do hear of people that really like it. I've heard both good and bad about DA and I'd like to try it out.

I think my favorite(s) would be a tie between Ensim and cPanel at this point.

In Ensim Pro, if you delete more than 2 sites in 5 minutes it will crash apache, you have to wait 5 minutes for the panel to come back and be normal again, not a huge problem, but it's improving.

Wow that doesnt sound too good...What if your resellers dont know and they do it?

So does it still restart apache every time a new account/site is created?

Personally from a support point of view DA is much better than cpanel. On a per customer basis we might get 1-2 tickets a day for cpanel but 1-2 a week on DA.

Isnt there a lot more available on cPanel than DA so that wouldnt that be part of the reason for that?

Does anyone here do Windows hosting? What about HELM? HELM is constantly improving, has a very involved community, and the developers are always on the forums to help out. The one huge plus is you can span multiple servers with just one control panel to set up. It can control dozens of mail, web, and DB servers across your network from one central point.

Hey John :)
Welcome to the community first off!

I have never done Windows and havent really looked into it either, I have only ever used and hosted with unix.

I have heard a lot of good comments about HELM.
A few of the things I thought were a good extra in HELM are the billing system and internal messaging.
I use cPanel and it doesnt have either, I would love to have the billing in the control panel, especially if you could integrate it for signups.
What way does HELM control more than one server?
That seems very interesting but I dont know what you can do or how it works really

You can see their explination for multi-server at:
http://www.webhostautomation.com/helm/multiserver.asp

With just one control server, which saves all of your settings in a MSDE (free) or MSSQL DB, you can have HELM create web sites, e-mail accounts, and any other hosting recourse on any server you have a remote license for. We choose HELM for our hosting primarily because as we added servers, we would not have to configure another compleatly independant control panel for each one. All user accounts and settings are located in one central interface.

The billing system works great for automatic signups. Once the payment is made through your gateway, the account is automaticly activated for the user.

I think HELM is great from the admin side, but there are some user functions that I have seen in *nix control panels that would be nice to have. One of them being ?Fantastico? or the ablility to set scripts us to install automaticly.
