Sometimes, living on the Internet like we do, I think we forget about the tried and true "real" world advertising tools. I don't just mean print ads, tv and radio, which really don't tend to work too well (at least in my opinion) unless you're willing to sink serious money into them. I'm talking about the more guerrilla stuff: post fliers on bulletin boards, drop business cards wherever you can (Starbucks and Panera bread have both worked for me), put a bumper sticker on your car, etc. I've also found success with more traditional "real" world methods like the local Chamber of Commerce and sponsoring local events. One fun and cheap idea is to sponsor kids car washes or lemonade stands. It's cute, cheap and fun on a Saturday afternoon. Though, maybe not so much in winter.
