Website Constantly Down

Well I haven't seen the error message in quite a while so I guess you can say that's a good thing. But if I happen to see the message again I'll post it up here again.

what kind website you running? :) you must see at IP look up are not connected or down. if down nd then down so maybe ask transfer to another host.

When you notice the site down, do a check through a proxy such as pagewash.com and internetsupervision.com. This will tell you if it's in fact down across multiple proxies or if it's just isolated to you. Noting any errors also will be helpful in the process.

I wouldn't rely 100% on 3rd party monitoring programs because at times, they can inadvertently check the service while a quick restart or something is done to make a change or the ip of the monitoring program could become blocked (rare, but can happen)

Well the website they're running is a business / game forum. (They have both).

But the site hasn't been down in a while so that's good I suppose.

You know, a move needn't mean an upgrade or a big move at all. Just a relocation of the site to a host that does a better job of meeting their needs-as in, a host that isn't down more than it is up. I wouldn't want to be sticking around with them.

The only way to fix that is to switch to a better host

That's pretty much what I was thinking for a while, but luckily I haven't experienced a problematic message in well, since the last time I mentioned one occuring so it appears that it was just going haywire on them for a while.

Now the only problem is that it's not as active as it was way back when I first brought up the problem - but that's just someting that happens on the internet :smash:

A stable host is one of the most important things to me, and I think it's a complete waste to spend money on something which will be down almost as much as it's up. Trust me, I have made some mistakes before in picking hosts, just because the price was good.

A friend of mine works with a company down in PA, and the entire website goes down seemingly every couple of days.

I've spoken to him (my friend) and asked him why this happens/happened and he just said it's the host - but either wouldn't the host try and fix it so it doesn't happen frequently or much less than it does - or could there be an actual way of fixing it without it actually being the host?

Sounds to me as your friend is in a shared environment which could be the issue at hand. Try suggesting to your friend to upgrade their plan to a less resource limited plan or simply ask their host to transfer their site(s) to a less busy server.

More than likely your friend (or another client sharing the server) could be using to much resources and exceeding them causing the server's performance to degrade.

Just a thought - Hope your friend's issues get ironed out soon.
