Warning About BestHosts2008.com

This is my first post on this forum, so I know some of you may not take this seriously but I just found something very disturbing.

JustHosting.com created a hosting review website. www.BestHosts2008.com (paying Google Adwords, listed #2 for the term “hosting”). Now the idea for this site is great and I love the thought, but it is incredibly biased and wrong.

Guess who’s the best host? That’s right, they are. Guess what? They are also promoting their JustUptime.com monitoring service on the website too. If you do a who is seach, here’s what you get:

You can see that they tried to cover it up but the nameservers say it all.

So basically they created a website and wrote a really good review about themselves, ranked themselves the best, and are promoting the site.

I think it isn't fair that they would make a site like this claiming they have they best hosting when it is clearly biased and just a huge advertisment campaign. This is just a warning to anyone looking for a true comparison of hosts, this site isn't the way to go.

If anyone has anything to say/add, I'd love to hear it

That's why customers should do their own due diligence and approach the perspective hosting company. This would be a good example of how one sided some website can be...

Most of the web hosting directories are based on who has the deepest pocket and how aggressive their marketing folks are.

Yea unfortunatey you are correct.

I just saw this and I wanted the community to know. It isn't right that they can come out with a "review site" that is completely biased towards them. It is a huge advertisement that gives an unknowledgable user a false sense of truth.

Why is it that I am not surprised. Most companies on that list run such marketing practices. Apart from the fact this particular site might be run by the company itself (we don't know for sure), there are countless number of such sites out there. All you have to do is offer large commission rate for all-unlimited package to end up one of "top ranked" companies.

Nice. The rest of it-paying to be a top rated company, that I would have expected. But this is a little more creative than I would have expected. Having a review site as a front for your ads basically, thats clever.

Here are some more disturbing facts some other people have found about this site.

"I did some snooping and JustHost has BestHosts2009.com as well (though it is not resolving at the moment). A marketing company owns BestHosts2010.com and BestHosts2011.com has not been registered yet."

"Actually those top10 sites can be very profitable!

especially when justhosts say they are top host at $4.95 then you visit their site to see their plans are not very well thought out.

http://www.besthosts2008.com/ in $4.95

then

http://www.justhost.com/ in £3.95 for uk people but $4.95 if you change to US.

it even says no hidden fees...

should be bestripoffhosts"

"Okay, I've lost even more respect for JustHost.

Look at the bottom of their website. This is just a classy award:
http://www.justhost.com/img/footer_besthosts_hover.gif"

The rank normally just for a reference only.
You choose the hosting company not only depend the rank only, other source also need to be considered such as support, uptime, price and etc..

I cannot agree with you here. How is it a rip off when a company has different prices for different world regions? A company can have different operating costs depending on the region.

I agree. Costs in the UK are a lot higher. The pound, compared to the dollar is stronger though, and so depending upon where in the world the servers are, this might not be fair. I'd need more information as to locations before I could really decide that I feel it unfair.

Yes you are right but there are no difference whre to host in UK or US because delays are not being seeing by eyes. But unfoirtunatelly many people do not believe in that.

Does anyone know of any other sites like this to avoid?

My experiences show that it's almost impossible to find a really honest web host review site, most are nothing but paid advertisers. As a web host we've always tried to stay away from such offers. High bidder gets the recommendation and that's not the recommendation an honest seller would want.

I'm glad you posted this! I actually just found that "best" page and came here to search for info on justhost.com. It all comes down to researching I guess. Gone is the naivety!

It is said when you find things like this on the web. That company is just using the site to get their own traffic and too boost sales. It is biased like you said, and is not to be trusted.

Well, I thank S3rP for checking out the registrant info. I probably would not have looked. (I will now though!) I think you may have saved a lot of people from getting hooked by their $5 service. :crash:

This is a common Practice by some hosting companies,The make a top 10 or top 5 Hosting companies or In some cases only a Top 1 hosting company website and promote their own Hosting company or Products on It.
This might be questionable Ethically but Its not professionally.

I would have been more shocked if I hadn't already seen a lot of other web hosts doing this same kind of thing. While it does indeed make me sick, this type of shady deal has been going on for years now, and by more than a few hosts.

It is to me!

This is what gives advertising a bad name. It shouldn't be an acceptable practice in this field, or any field for that matter. Consumers that are not in the know and don't have anyone to bounce company reviews off of fall for this hook, line, and sinker. And then who has to pick up the pieces? You and me!
