VPS Reseller

I would advise ignoring the first 2 comments. One simply cant expect to just purchase a dedicated server and call themselves a VPS hoster.

It takes time and effort to learn any virt type inside and out (And i dont just mean getting used to SolusVM or any other CP) i mean getting to grips with it on a strictly command line basis.

Its all to easy to get a VPS online, not so easy to track down somebody abusing your connection or disks.

What's the best way to go if you want to offer VPS plans? Is reseller better or is it better to get your own server and set up your own?

I prefer VPS Reselling in which i purchase vps as it is from any one of service provider and resell it to customer, this way i donot have headache of hardware and backup related issues, as parent host service provider manage it generally. As well as i prefer to go with a VPS reseller option where RAID-10 and R1Soft backup are been offered as backend hardware platform for good VPS services for end user customers.

I can understand the pros and cons for each. The best solution is to run your own environment as you can build something bespoke and try and provide a unique selling point

The issue is this is not easy and highly available environments which protect your customers and your business are not cheap or easy to setup

What I would say is don't underestimate the costs, if you want to buy a single host then this isn't going to be expensive but you won't have all the features your competitors are going to have.

This isn't to say you still can't sell your product you will just have to have spot on support or other usp

Hi, nowadays there are lots of hosting company providing a hosting services. so it means there is lots of competition in that. so its better to go for reseller, earn some experience and then it will be much easier for you to setups your own server.

Reselling VPS advantages start with saving time and money as the main provider will have better and long experience with cheap prices so you can compete easily in the market. Where having your own VPS advantages is you are on your own and free to do whatever you want and provide any customized package you prefer, assign your own prices and allow VPS reselling. After all if you are a newbie or a starter use Reselling VPS once you have good amount of orders and loyal customers plus good experience start having your own servers and migrate all accounts.

Its a far better idea to start off with your own server and then build on that. Though, if you are new to it and not sure what your doing, start off with reselling, and build a client base and use that time to learn and implement.

I personaly think its better to have your own servers since then you dont have to rely on a reseller account on someone else's server. also you are able to do server updates and make modifications asap instead of having to open a ticket and wait for the reseller provider to get back to you and maybe they are going through another reseller so they have to contact there provider also so it can be a slower process if you need something done server end.

I've been away from this site for awhile but am catching up now on what everyone has been writing. Everyone has offered a tremendous amount of help for which I am truly grateful. I do have 2 VPS servers now, both managed with Plesk on one and cPanel on the other. Although my own preference is Plesk I got cPanel because I realize it's a more popular choice with most people.

I do prefer not owning the hardware. Several years back I had a dedicated line installed in my home on which I ran my own servers. One linux machine and one windoze machine. I put my web sites on it an IRC network and a radio station.

It was nice having the physical server right there in my living room. The problem was it got cracked a couple times, once I had to reformat the HD and reinstall everything in case the cracker left any back doors.

With VPS there is more security in place and the setup with my upstream provider is very good. I've also learned much more having my servers set up this way. I've learned not to allow SSH access via root and other safety factors. The nice thing about VPS is I'm not running my sites in an environment that has been over sold. Before VPS I had a reseller account and the sites did not run near as fast as they do now. Granted, some overselling is necessary I think in order to make money, I don't want to do it to such a point that it slows the sites down. When I got my first VPS there was a distinct difference in speed between it and the reseller account.

You've all been a tremendous help and my website is far better as well. I can't say thanks enough.

Well... owning hardware is nowhere related to hacking issues. Even you rent a dedicated server, if it's unmanaged and if you are not familiar with server management, it will be hacked sooner or later. The same circumstance with VPS. You will need to know how to secure your VPS to prevent hacking happening.

Anyway, great to know that community can help in some ways :)

If you have a much knowledge in server management you can run your own server. If you don't have a knowledge and experience in vertiualization better to start as a reseller.

not 100% accurate as you can get a managed VPS or Dedicated server, but while you have a managed server if an issue occurs tand yopu need your providers help then ask then
1) what was the issue
2) how did they fix/solve it.

then note these down in a book, sop if this happens again then you know how to fix this yourself, therfore on the job training.

If you don't have a knowledge and experience in vertiualization better to start as a reseller.

yes start as a reseller and then work your way upto a server.
