UK vs USA hosting

American web hosts are not more reliable at all. And to be honest I would say many of the US shared web hosts entered an overselling competition.

I don't agree with this. :rolleyes2

I agree to a certain extent I think over the last 2 years the UK have entered the market through overselling.

Having said that so many levels are overselling it's hard to determine who isn't overselling. Even if the Shared Hosting provider isn't overselling the chances of the Data Centre overselling is possible.

There's little chance of a data center not overselling. The competition and the savings that proper management can bring are too great for them to pass on the opportunity. They just don't oversell 10 times over like it seems to be the norm in US shared budget hosting.

You can host a .net domain on a UK host.
Google results are not affected by your hosting location.
Search for a cheaper web host; there are many.

From a technical setup you can host any domain with any host.

I suggest you go learn a little about search engines and Google in particular to see just how wrong that comment is .... :P

- but 250Gb/2.5Tb for $9.95 - that has to be a joke !
No its not a joke and its very possible. Firstly if some one has a site that consume that type of bandwidth/storage they wouldn't probably go with such overselling plans in the first place. People who would go for such plans are mostly newbie's and usually these people are new to hosting and therefore hardly use that type of bandwidth. In case if one starts really using their bandwidth they would probably get suspended for over CPU or server resources usage.

So YES! 250Gb/2.5Tb for $9.95 is very possible ;)
