If you are a US company trying to sell to the UK market, a server in the US will have approximately 100ms overhead on ping times here in he UK and vice versa.
UK hosting was historically more expensive than our US counterparts mainly due to bandwidth costs, but not so these days. I would say that UK pricing was just as competitive.
