Try Before You Buy

I realise that there isn't really a way that you can try before you buy, unless you manage to find a first month free gig on your potential new host. But is there any way that you can test out other things-maybe a website that will analyse server response times, or monitor the main site for down time (assuming they host their ad pages themselves).

How ethical would it be to do this?

MOST hosts offer a 30 day money back guarantee. It's very easy to try before you buy using these methods.

As for review sites, I don't put much faith in them. MOST review sites are paid services. While there are companies that allow customers to review them, often to get on the top of the list you must pay for advertising with them etc.

It would be nice to find some like that. It might even good for them if they give us a free taste and we like it we might continue buying it. The 30 day guarantee is good as well but it means you actually have to sign up which is not exactly the same.

Hosts that allow users to freely use their servers without collecting any sort of payment leave themselves wide open for hackers and spammers. While not everyone has that agenda on their mind, too many people do!

With a 30 day money back program, you pretty much steer would be stammers away from your hosting company and on to others that offer everything for free (or REALLY cheap).

Remember - you get what you paid for! If you're promised the world and it's only $2.00, chances are, SOMETHING is missing.

Hello,

Most hosting companies offer a 30 days money back guarantee - no questions asked. Also, you might be lucky enough to find a hosting company that prides itself on there uptime capabilities. In which case they will offer an SLA (Service Level Agreement) which will include something to the effect of, "if you experience more then 10 minutes of downtime you will received 5% off your next bill." - do not quote me. I hope I was helpful. Best of luck to you and your search for a web hosting provider.

As mentioned there are many hosts out there that offer a 30 day money back guarantee. This should be used to your advantage so you can test the service. If you're not satisfied with the service you received you can simply request for your money back.

There are hosting companies that offer money back guarantee's ranging from 30 days to 60 days and sometime even beyond,This is a Good way to judge services before your make a complete purchase.

It is hard to suggest any review sites, quite honestly. I don't think I have ever seen a completely unbiased review site. Most use their own affiliate links and write only good things so you don't know if it is because the host is really good or because the reviewer wants to make a buck. Most hosting is cheap enough that you can test drive it for a month or two with a unimportant site or test site.

I'm not looking for review sites. I was talking about sites that specifically allow you to watch a host, and will record stats such as the time when it goes down, how long it is down for and so on, and then allows you to then view those details at a later time?

There is many tools used to allow customer monitoring server uptime. Some hosting company would like to forward their server uptime everytime. So customer could see by them-self how powerfull is that company :) This could be stated the company who stated their server uptime everytime and have a good average was a strong and reliable.

Or the 30days money back guarantee was a good benefits for customer. Try it for 30days, You should loose nothing for it.^^

I have not been able to find a way to offer a 30 day “try before you buy” service, especially without entering payment information. What do you think about offering a 5 day trial with billing information entered? Or say a 15 day trial for a $1.00 or something like that?

Money back gurantee is basicly what you might want to look for. It is in the way a free trial, you do not like it then request your money back during that time.

yes, hosting company must have a try before you buy.

then, when the company operates the web hosting.

and most of all, you must search for reviews.

many hosts have test files on their website which can demonstrate their upload speed (assuming you have a good connection for downloading). You can also run a traceroute to a few of their server IPs to get an idea of the routing their network uses, as well as the main upstream providers.

But really the best way to try out a host is to sign up with one that offers a money-back guarantee or a free first month coupon.

the speed is actually common, but we test for server uptime, and most of all, the company stability.

The disadvantage that I see with a "try before you buy" situation is that it's kind of like going on a date! You're doing EVERYTHING possible to put your best foot forward, say the right things, and open the car door like you should be all along. After 3 or 4 dates, people forget these things and relax a little more. The same goes for hosting companies.

Instead of doing a "try before you buy", just BUY (and have the guarantee as a backup if needed). This way you can test the company in a REAL environment, under real circumstances, and not on a TEST machine or getting special priority ticket status just so they can close the deal.

With a 30 day money back (or even some companies with 60 and 90 days), you can't go wrong.
