Top ten webhosting companies

Hi, just wanted to get your thoughts on what makes a company one of the top then in the hosting business. I see some companies who offer unlimited hosting as one or a few of the top ten companies do you feel that these companies should be listed at the top.
 
Top ten of what? Quality? Overselling? Unlimited offer vendors are never in the top ten, if mentioning to quality of services.
 
Top ten lists are almost always dominated by affiliate providers and for anyone who has been in this industry for any length of time, very easy to pick out. The best provider is the provider that most closely matches your specific hosting requirements and growth expectations.
 
I would says that if a consumer wants to get advise on web hosting or to compare a web hosting service providers, the last thing to do is to consult with any "top 10" or "best 10" or other similar "top" or "best" comparison website. Most people who maintain such websites are either sponsored/affiliated with web hosting providers or just do not offer quality content to consumers.
 
most 'top' 'best' hosts pay to be in these lists ( the more you pay the higher you are placed.

I added our site to a review site and within 24 hours got an email from the site admins to day they could place us in the top 5 if we were willing to pay $1,000.
neither to say i told them to remove our site from their review system
 
Although most "top 10 list" websites are affiliated, but there're some independent sites online choosing hosting providers carefully and by real customer reviews f.ex. Trustpilot, Reviewcentre, hostsearch, Serchen, etc. But agree, for customers it's a bit hard choosing a proper list to rely on.
 
i would not trust Serchen as they are just spammers as once you list your site with them Serchen will constantly spam you with emails to purchase upgrades from them to boost your ranking
 
The Top 10 list can't be trusted at all. They usually include the companies that pay for it and you should refer to customer testimonials more than these lists.
The web hosting companies that have good reviews in the testimonials and their forums can be trusted and are best in the true sense.

Choose wisely,live well!
 
Some are trustworthy, but most are ads. So google the review on how people talk about them. But you also need to judge which are real.

which ones? in my 11 years in the hosting business i have never found any 'top' 'best' list to be trusted.

if you do a search of most you will see its usually the same hosts and usually the ones that have mega $$ behind them, as they pay to be listed. you will not find any small hosts listed as these dont have the funds to pay to get top listings

I have to agree with you as you’ve mentioned the actual truth, but it is unfair to criticize them because of their ability to spend more $$$ on advertisements.

For Ex. Several good sneaker shoe brands available in the market and they are as good as Nike and Adidas even cheaper than these big brands, but what we buy? Nike Dunks :)

is the truth. I think honestly most hosts if they had the funds would pay to be listing in a 'top' 'best' list as i am sure these do generate clients or the big boys would not do this.

Agreed, these charts of hosts which are available on the web are mostly paid and have no connection with reality

I would disagree with forums being a true check as very few forum users would open threads to praise a host, most open threads when thery have issues with a host.

also reviews on a hosts website may not be true as a host can sometimes fake these.

The size of their bank account. These top 10/hosting review sites are affiliate or revenue driven. If you speak out against any of the top 10, your account will get suspended or closed or there will be a run on positive reviews to drown out the negative.

I agree to this. And if a hosting company's forum is riddled with complain threads, at least that tells us the company does not attempt to hide or mask the truth. I have known hosts that remove such complain threads from forums and some hosts run client only forums so that potential clients are not turned away by looking at their public forum.
