Top 10 webhosts

There can be some truth on the reviews of web hosting companies but we never know if those reviews are written by satisfied customers or paid writers.

I think we can only know about the service of the web hosting company through websites like this and testimonies of real customers. Then again, how will we know that they are real customers and not just some individuals paid by the company to say good things about their services?
 
It's not only "top hosts" lists that provide reviews. Sadly though, many review collecting websites have no process in place to weed out false reviews. On my own site I've had a 3:1 shill to real review ratio. It's incredible the number of hosts that try to plant reviews. Mostly it's the new, small ones, looking for almost instant recognition in the market.

Generally, well moderated forums are a good source of credible reviews. Sadly, not all forums are well moderated either, and webmasters forums generally place little attention to their web hosting section, where shills abound.

It is just impossible to make a list because there is just no way to have an objective direct experience with all providers in the world. Even then, there has to be a scientific non-biased method to be able to quantify test results in order to give a company a rank.

I agree with you Artashes. If you just take a glance on what the host providers are offering you will notice that one of them is giving you for example domain privacy for free, but offers you only 10 GB of space and 100 GB of bandwidth, while another offers unlimited everything but you have to pay for domain privacy. I just gave an example with 2 variables. But what happens if you take the second one and find out after 6 month that they blocked your site due to the fact that you use 7%of their processor?
 
In my opinion there are no best web hosts.. There are just popular hosts and not so popular. Even not popular web hosts can be very good hosts, their only problem is that they aren't that popular, that's all.
 
Generally is hard to give a big commission if you don't have features.
It is hard to make a top ten from the point of the client as everyone needs different things.
That is why a top will have criteria like: number of clients, affiliates, up time, etc.
 
"Top 10 ..." is my all time "favorite" topic :) It is usually brought up (sorry, don't mean to be rude or offend anyone) by people who do not have an idea about what are they talking about.
 
People are slaves to advertising. Take hostgator for example. Their ads are everywhere and burned into your brain. If someone asks about a good webhost, Hostgator is the first thing that usually pops into your head, even though there are hundreds of complaints about their service.

EXACTLY! Here is another example. Who is the best boxer of all time? I'm sure you can name a few popular title holders and such, but some of the best boxers out there are...ready for this?...in prison.

They are in prison for 30 years to life and all they do is train and fight. Nothing else. Never heard of them, but sure could beat the crap out of any popular boxer out there.

I was simply making a point that the question can not be properly answered. Everyone has their own idea as to what hosting company is the best. It would depend on geographics, and the individual opinions of each customer. There is no way possible to determine the top ten hosting companies.
 
My vote goes to 040hosting. We have some dedicated servers there and so far everything is superb. Best thing about this hosting is their support which is just amazing, they will always explain in details within 15 minutes on all our questions and requests. Something I can't say for a lot of other providers.
 
To judge we need to cover atleast 10% of the whole web hosting companies to test and to list the top 10, it is impractical to cover those 10% because web hosting is a tooo broad market.
It will make sense if you look at the hosting companies hosting plan configuration rather than companies list as Nile Hadwards said.

I agree, there is no such as top hosting sites. I have used lot of web hosting services, it all grounds down to what features one is looking for
 
Yes good thread But do you want to know about top 10 webhosting companies or top 10 Hosting providers with all packages etc
 
In my opinion it's meaningless to get such list because every hosting company has problems to different people. If you're really looking for some good company, just follow the basic rules about how to get a qualifying host.
 
Small hosting providers have more advantages in my opinion; you just need to find a right one. The support team in large hosting providers isn't nice in many cases.
 
There is no rating of web hosting providers in terms of quality of services, however you can rate them according to their client age.
