Stopping people stealing a domain?

I know someone who wants to try and steal my domai, and says they are going to buy it before I renew it.

Is that actually possible?

I don't think.. I think there is a time of 30 days where only you can re-register it, so nobody else can steal it..

Just renew it before the date. You can renew or extend the time whenever you want.
