Shared vs VPS

Thanks Jonny and Steve

the package is probably more than I will need but the sites should cover the costs and I am not interested in a profit TBH

I get other benefits from running them LOL

How much faster and how much quicker should i expect my pageload times to be ?

I counted the yesterday and it was 20 seconds LMAO

I think so Sean

this is what it says on their site

Hi Phil,
Since I transferred my account from the shared servers to the business servers at 123ehost, I did noticed a difference with the performance. I had asked for a trial before making any decision or payments.

Thanks for that Johhny

the thing is for the package the same as you they quoted $380 a year and said it would only be suited to the one large site

but with me making another large site and still having the other small site that i was best to take a package that was $996 but they would do it for $900

so for an extra $21.15 i can get a guaranteed !.5Gb of Ram with a 3Gb burst on a 32Gb server whereas the 123ehost server has only 2Gb for the entire server

Plus 123ehost uses intel pentium 4 2.8ghz CPU compared to the servint option of Dual Quad Core Intel Xeon L5300/L5400 Series CPUs

And from reading here it seems that they have as excellent a service as what i have experienced with 123ehost

Actually, I have contacted Sam to audit my account and I have found out that my account is on a Xeon server and I have bandwidth wouldn't be an issue as long as I do not abuse the system. And as of January 1st, they are dropping their prices for the business servers and providing more features for the shared servers. You might want to contact Sam directly, I think he is the manager.

Good Luck.
Johnny

Hi Johhny

Yeah it was sam that i was talking with. He recommended a package at $900 was best for me with what i was asking but could not provide details of CPU or Ram allocation but did say that most servers had 2Gb Ram.

It is not the bandwidth or the sapce that is my issue but it seems the MySql database is placing a high load on the memory and CPU.

Thanks

Phil

Just happened to be on using google webmaster tools and it told me that my home page takes on average 19.7 seconds to load and most other pages were about 8 seconds.

I also just found out that my site is 2nd of 993,000 results in serps on google.com and google.co.uk for the main 2 keywords associated with it, 1st place went to wikipedia of course

From the link it seems that they are not providing any VPS for you. It look likes a kind of premium plan for you. Can you please check this out?

If your ultimately unhappy with their server performance, I would contact them and see if they can move you to a different server first. Like you said, you where happy the previous 2.5 years. Maybe the server is a bit crowded after this time.

Otherwise you could probably get away quite easily with a shared hosting package from anywhere. I don't really think you NEED a VPS. Maybe try to find a host who doesn't oversell their servers as this will help reduce over crowded systems (though not guaranteed but helpful).

Well I think you would be much happier with a VPS since you get full control for the same price. With a VPS, you get root access so that you can install any software in the future that most shared hosting providers refuse to install such as various php libraries, memcached, Team Speak, Shoutcast, etc. This way you can do all that you need to do with one VPS instead of buying hosting for everything separately. Also with a VPS, it is very easy to scale your plan to suit both your needs and your budget, something that is much harder to do with shared hosting providers.

Good luck with your search, hope the hosting goes well.

MOD NOTE: Edited for self promotion.

Don't be so confident in choosing hosting provider.
Be sure that the provider is honest and trustworthy one.
Try to ask people around about this or that company...

Hi!
Sigh. What gets me about threads like this..vps providers extoll the benefits of a vm doing hosting..and none of the downsides.

I'm sick of posting this over and over again.I mean..come on, folks.

Check your page load times. Compare a normal server with a vps and I'll wager your page load times are 2-5 times slower than the normal server.
