Restructuring the Marketplace

Actually its not clear that the Sticky articles and Announcements in each of the Marketplace sections are not part of the restructuring. But thanks for finally clearing that up. It will help me plan marketing budget for future - -as small as it is. It would be silly for me to pay for advertising under "objective" articles that essentially characterize me as untrustworthy and a liar. Just my opinion, of course. You may rescind the 50% discount you offered me a long time ago.

If you feel so strongly about being labeled a liar, I expect that you are going to stop advertising yourself in the Marketplace completely. I know I would.

There is a difference between paying for it and not paying for it. The former is a lousy investment, the latter is not. Simple.

Whether you run a paid sticky or a regular ad, makes zero difference. You still advertise under the "objective articles that characterize [you] as untrustworthy and a liar", according to you. Given that you conveniently want to continue to advertise in the marketplace means you essentially have no problem with it. Why you needed to cause so much drama about it is beyond me. #micdrop

NOTE: There will be no further discussion on this subject.

I agree that everything should be split.

It should help make the marketplace easier to navigate as there will be a clear separation. (Example: Shared and Reseller)

Please, make the FREE hosting section. While it would bring amateur users, it would be nice to have a template to follow.

I for once do like getting new sponsorships once in a blue moon.

Plus, keep everything as is.

I think with free hosting we'll end up seeing 'Signed up with X and they've gone down, lost all my data' type posts.

However might be interesting in terms of traffic / forum contribution.

with free hosting can I suggest you limit to members who are known for example been on the forum for more than a month also limit the post count as I would not want this to be going to a newbie who will abouse the system a vouched would be good

If you're just going by the poll, don't think it'll make any difference :).

Yes and No. I think that I would like to receive at least 50 votes before reaching the final decision on restructuring and preferably one overwhelmingly popular option to be desired by the members. But given that even 1 vote can make a difference in distribution of poll percentages, it can make its impact.

I wanted to address something that might be a matter of interest to companies that advertise in the marketplace through stickies as it might impact the way they vote.

Here is what to expect if the Marketplace is restructured:

- Targeting will increase
- Prices for sticky ads will decrease
- Existing clients will double exposure at no price increase

What happens to my sticky ad?

All existing clients' sticky ads will receive a second one without a price increase. If you have an active sticky ad in the Shared & Reseller hosting offers forum, you will receive a sticky in both Shared offers and Reseller offers forums without any price increase for you. If you have advertising running in the VPS, Dedicated and Colocation hosting offers forum at the time of marketplace changes, you will receive a sticky in the VPS offers forum, Dedicated offers forum and Colocation offers (only if you offer such a service).

Aha gotcha, makes sense.

Off-topic: Move to Xenforo :smash:

I see that you voted "Split everything, but keep Dedicated/Colocation merged". Did you mean to select "Split absolutely everything" instead?

I voted what I thought would be best but after I thought about and colo and dedi should be split, I can not change my vote but I think if your split everything in the "Web Hosting Offers" section it would be good because like in another post it will target more users looking for specific hosting type rather then trying to search and buy shared hosting but just ended up spending 25 a month for some resellers web hosting(if the user is new to this).

I also think color and dedi should be slip and your could mix cloud and dedi if you really wanted to. since they are both ran on dedicated servers.

A New design for HD would not hurt either its been the same for years and changing something could boost some activity.

I have added my vote. The proposed new marketplace structure seems pretty good, but I guess it is best if you just combine the Shared Reseller Hosting Offers.

I am confused. You voted to split shared and reseller hosting offers only, but in your post above you say it is best if we were to combine them (which is what we have right now). Which one is it?

My vote was to just split the Shared and Reseller / VS what is now the majority to split everthing .... Reason is / activity - once you have a bunch of spilt up forums with little activity it becomes like a night club / the club that is packed with people will be the club where patrons will come back to / the club that has a few people / most will not return. So perhaps it can be based on traffic and the amount of posts per day - week etc / if it is in high demand / then splitting everything may be a good idea. I say the split for Shared and Reseller for sure as that is two different types of visitors / one prosumer that is looking for a shared provider and another that is a vendor / reseller ... anyway just my 2 cents.
