From a consumer standpoint, finding reliable hosting reviews can be a daunting task.
Most review sites, (or atleast the ones indexed on Page 1 of Google under most popular "host review" keywords) always display some sort of "Top Ten List" of hosts, which is always a paid advertising spot. Depending on the management of the review site itself, you'll often find fake and shill reviews as domain name verification isn't used to make sure the reviewer actually has an account or had an account at the company they're reviewing!
I'm not familiar with RatePoint, but reading short comments like, "I've been with [insert host name] for 5 months and there service rocks!" doesn't help me, it doesn't really help consumers. I understand the business aspect of it, and realize the importance of keeping up a good public image, but the service itself (as someone else mentioned) isn't up to par to be a reliable review service for the web hosting industry.
Just some late night (early morning) rambles.
