Picking First Web Host

Avoid purchasing "unlimited" plans or plans that advertise "2TB of Bandwidth for $3.95" etc. You'll usually end up with slow servers. As far as the domain, it depends on the company's practices. If they have a history of holding domains ransom use a different provider for your hosting. Otherwise, I see no problem using the same company for both services.
 
What you should look up is not to signup for *Unlimited* hoster. Usually they tend to oversell and this leads to poor quality service. Lookup for your real needs. I'm pretty sure you don't even use 5Gb of space!
Also, don't go on the cheapest bargain like 1-3$/month.
This is my advice
 
Do a complete analysis and research before choosing the Host. As you have mentioned it is your first hosting experience go with the chaeaper plans and it is advised to choose monthly pay rather than annual.
