Paypal Stigma

Why is there such a stigma with providers that use Paypal?

It seems that people talk down about those that use paypal as the payment gateway.

Is this because it is free to sign up? I mean it is NOT a free service by any means. And they are one of the largest payment gateways... so...

I'm curious as to what any of you may think?

thanks :)

John, I do not think providers who accept PayPal are being talked down, but rather providers who accept PayPal as their ONLY method of payment.

Companies using PayPal as their only method of payment not only limit business in potential worldwide clientbase, but also come off as companies that dramatically cut down on costs, which I personally have a problem with. Merchant account represent rather a low cost on a larger scale, so it has become sort of a "red flag" matter when you come across a company that doesn't have one.

In addition, I do not want to make any statements, but the number of hosting companies that close down fast, statistically, would seem to operate only with PayPal... :)

Best,

sigh

I sincerely understand what you are saying but I personally have had great success with Payl for several years. I have thought many times of getting an alternate Gateway so that i don't have everything invested in one spot but, they make it so easy and I always know what to expect from them as a business provider... know what I mean?

I just feel like I am being forced to get another gateway because of the bad "vibes" that people get from paypal vendors...<sigh>. I hate kiddy hosts... I swear, I mentally stomp their computers 3 times a day.

Ah well, thank you for your response

Don't feel bad about it! I am in the same boat with you. I have paid for 2 different geteways before, and ended up having zero activity, so I am not even sure if they are still active at all. Premium PayPal account solves ALL day-to-day problems, and I cannot complain.

Best,

take the safe route and get paypal, and pay the 50 dollars to setup your 2checkout account. most people including myself think that if you arent willing to spend 50 dollars to have an alternative billing method then your company is unstable, or you dont care. thats my opinion dont hate me for it ;)

storagedump.com,

You need to remember that transfering clients off your site also reflects badly. You have a possiblity with security issues and other itmes. Plus, as large as 2checkout.com maybe many customers are scared to use them. Think about it it is a 3rd party solution.

For a Merchant Account you can find some great deals from some great providers. Pay the $25.00/month, get an SSL Cert, and let your clients have the convenience of not leaving your site. It increases sales greatly. I know from helping our e-commerce clients setup with merchant accounts. They almost double their sales volume from just using paypal. :)

I would never hate you for your opinion...spamming is another matter...but I'm not saying anything new...right?

I'm am just very comfortable with Paypal since I have used them for a while and like all the rest of us, am not really ready to leave my comfort zone :) i would though, if it ever helps to ease a customer's mind...

WhereTolook,

I am not trying to sell you anything. I am providing an example. We are an authorized reseller of CDGCommerce.com. And, if you are looking to take baby steps towards out of your zone I would find a solid merchant processor like CDGcommerce with no setup fees, no cancellation fees, and no contract commitments. You receive lower rates then PayPal and you have the comfort of allowing your users to stay on your site.

From experience, it is a worth while investment. All "true" Merchant Processor will costs you $20.00 - $50.00. Find one that has no monthly minium, no setup fees, cancellation fees, or contracts and run with it. If you fail or you do not like it after the 1st month no big deal you can cancel.

I hope that that made you a little less nervious. Like I tell my e-commerce customers any advertising, improvement, is worth a shot. Its when you do it and how you do it that makes it shine or burn.

BHN - that was actually not directed at you :)

I will happily look at CDGCommerce. Is there a link you would prefer I click on? I do not mind giving you credit for a reference :)
