The title is the claim made by bluehost, does anyone know if it's true? If so I might become a copy cat LOL Or at least mimic some of the things they do without committing copyright infringement. They do seem to have a good site, but they actually offer more than anyone with brains knows a hosting company can. What are your thoughts on this?

Yes, it's true.

They quoted 30k+ in one of their videos and recently I saw some figures of them being around the 5th or 6th to register the most domains in January.

Bluehost has an extremely successful affiliate program that drives a large number of their sales.

Very interesting, and good information. I set up an affiliate program on my own site, I have one person who registered for it so far. I may see what bluehost pays out on theirs to see if that's the key to their success. It sounds like it from what you have posted.

BlueHost is owned by EIG (Endurance International Group) just as HostGator, HostMonster, and so many others... They can accomplish those amazing numbers due to their massive advertising budgets, that average in the $xxx, xxx per MONTH, per BRAND.. They are the Wal-Mart/McDonalds of the hosting industry, and that should tell you something about their quality as well. :rolleyes2

I'd say it is very true. Since EIG acquired them they have more than doubled their employment size, they are in most of the fake top 10 review sites due to a high paying affiliate program and so on.

Of course no one but themselves can really know :).

I can guarantee that if you come up with an affiliate payout rate twice their amount, you will shine in the 1st position on all those Top 10 lists overnight. :)

That's the sad truth of it.

They're offering around $60 a referral with a 60 day holding period, or up to 90 days. But, when you think about it, they aren't offering as much as some other host, which payouts go up a high as $150 a payout for just shared hosting. Another thing to note is that they only take annual payments for new sign ups. So they basically give the first year to the affiliate, then next year they get paid. For huge companies like them, they can justify the payout by offsetting it with the oversell from current clients.

And I thought my affiliate plan was pretty good. I'll have to look into this further to see what they are paying out.

Thanks for this info. Make sense why people want to be affiliates for them.

Gotcha. Sell low and hit the big numbers and in the end you'll do well. These companies are top heavy also and the main office scrapes a small amount off the top of everything. Everything to them is HUGE so they end up making out. This marketing strategy is what can crush the little guy.

Wait a second - what are you saying about Walmart and McDonalds? :)

i see bluehost animated advertise all the time, so it's must be true.

+1 for McDonalds!

(No walmart stores here :crash: )

@paradiseweb - Sounds right for Bluehost to get 20k. EIG in total would get lots more than 20k per month, just one of their major brands HostGator would probably top that many times over.

The advertising budget of BlueHost and other EIG group of companies is very high. They are every where on the web, paid ad networks has helped them to expand rapidly, they have a strong presence on the web. A person looking for web hosting has one of the EIG group of hosting companies in its list. 20k signs up a month is achievable figure for EIG

hehe nothing bad, Steve! :D

I'm just saying I would much rather eat at a nice Steakhouse, than eat at McDonald's!

Sure.. McDonald's is fine when I want something cheap and I don't care about its quality, with their big shiny signs everywhere I go (much like EIG host's eh?).. But when I want a steak cooked right, I go to a REAL restaurant/steakhouse. The same applies to web hosting..

See whee I'm going with this, people? ;)

I would rather :crash: than host a website with any EIG brand.

I do not know for sure if they are getting that volume but with links like this http://wordpress.org/hosting/ it would not be surprising. They are also the suggested hosting provider listed on clickbank and several others. I would love to have there marketing guys on our staff.
