Hey Guys,

Anyone receive an email (spam or otherwise) which cannot be deleted in Outlook? Well I did. Got an error when I tried to delete or move it getting an 'Unknown Error'...

Arrgghh! :beathim: I'm bashing my head, can't figure it out and I hate SPAM (one of those monthly invoice spams mails).

Any suggestions welcomed and thanks in advance!

Haha, monthly invoice spam?
You sure that isn't a real invoice ;)

What is the exact message?
Does it just say "Unknown error"?

Alex, if you can tell us the full error, or even a screenshot if it is more than just a few words, then we could help you more :)

What version of microsoft outlook are you using?

If it is 2000/2002/2003 you need to visit http://www.microsoft.com and select office update from the left hand side. Make sure you upgrade to SP3.

I might also suggest exporting all your current settings/messages just incase the problem continues. You dont want to lose all your important messages.

After you finish upgrading take a trip to: http://housecall.trendmicro.com and run through their virus scanning. This tends to pick up a lot more viruses/trojans than Norton does.

If you still have the problem let me know. ALso take a full screen shot next time so I can see where exactly the error occurs.

You could also try this. Sometimes outlook 2002/2003 has problems storing temp data. This quick registry fix will cure that:

1. Using REGEDIT.EXE by going to "Start" >> "Run" >> and typing "regedit" >> OK locate the following key:
MyComputer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Outlook\Security
Note: Depending on your version you may have to modify that path after the "Office" key. You may have folders 8.0, 9.0, 10.0, 11.0, go the highest number. This is probably the version that you use.

2. Modify the Key "OutlookSecureTempFolder", by replacing "Temporary Internet Files" with "Temp". For example:
OLD VALUE: C:\Documents and Settings\kamen\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\OLK177\ (you may have different number than 177)
NEW VALUE: C:\Documents and Settings\kamen\Local Settings\Temp\OLK177\

3. Restart Microsoft Outlook.

We actually use Trend for our enterprise AV & SPAM solution...

Will do. Actually whenever you click/highlight it mentions that the email cannot be read on the pane view to double-click, but that just gives another useless error message: Can't open this item. Whether you want to delete, move, forward, any action will come up with this error.

I'll try your next message suggestions a little later in the day as I am currently setting up some new workstations on the network.

This should be on the all time Microsoft' USELESS WINDOW MESSAGES.

Thanks!

Kick it in the balls Alex, make sure it knows who is boss.

Let me find a way for you to delete messages while not using the application..... give me about an hour
