Organic traffic - how do you achieve it?

Hi all,

Just looking for some tips/advice really for our brand awareness. We recently switched our primary URL from Infused-Hosting.com to Infusedhosting.co.uk (Due to whenever discussing with a client, they always struggle to write the domain name).
Due to this change, we lost all of our page rankings, organic traffic reduced to minimal.

What are your main ways of obtaining organic traffic?
Google Adwords, Microsoft Ads, Facebook Ads?

Blogging / onpage SEO updates?

Forum / Advertisement such as on here and webhostingtalk?

Thanks

I've always recommended companies to focus on content. If you were a coffee shop, the formula would have also included social media. In my opinion, web hosting and social media doesn't mix, not in the same way at least (except maybe Twitter as a client communication channel).

Who are your clients, for the most part? Are they small/medium businesses? Are they gamers? Resellers? Are they local to you companies?

Posting generic articles, how-to's, etc. will likely have zero effect on traffic and ranking. There is too much of that information, recycled thousands of times already. You might also miss the intent of pursuing this strategy entirely.

Once you identify who your prime client is, I suggest building a blog with them in mind. What are their day-to-day challenges? How can they optimize their business? What tools can they use to increase productivity, or revenue? If you cater to their interest and pain points, you'll start getting somewhere. If the eventual goal of the content strategy is to increase your own sales, then you'll start finding new audiences, the same group of clients who would appreciate learning something new and adapting them in their own business.

If you run a 301 redirect on the old domain, you will not lose 100% of your page rank. Much of it should trickle over to the new domain over time.

As far as picking up Organic Rankings, it's all down to content and information, As @Artashes stated. Don't let Facebook and YouTube scare you off either, those are great sources of traffic and can lend a hand in the organic race too. At this point, you're back to Brand Awareness, and that's where Social & YouTube really excel.
