Need domain ideas. Please advise.

Hello.

I have a small issue (well quite a large one really).

I have just bought my own dedicated server and wanted to transfer my domain from my old hosting provider to my new one (the new one being me). However my old hosting provider will not let me transfer the domain. It's locked to their domain registrar and they are refusing to unlock it or give me the EPP code unless I have been with them for 6 months or more. I haven't even been with them a month before I decided to leave as their service was not meeting my expectations.

Personally, I think they're just being cheeky. But I've been fighting with them for almost 24 hours now. They are not going to let me transfer the domain. And annoyingly enough, neither will they refund it. :crash:

What annoys me even more still is that I paid 123-reg to transfer the domain and they are unable to do so because it is locked.
I will either have to convince my old hosting company to unlock the domain (which they won't) or I'll have to ask 123-reg for a refund.
Today is not a good day for me so far. :(

I am trying to reset up a web hosting company as my previous company went a bit haywire (hence why I left my old server provider). I didn't have root access, the servers went down, they never rebooted them. I couldn't do anything, and my customers were, quite frankly, very unhappy. And rightfully so. I mean it wasn't their fault was it?!

So, that's basically why I bought my own server. I have complete control. And I will be there to reboot it. No more waiting around for useless providers to come to the rescue. Coz I am the provider now.

Anyway, that doesn't solve the issue with the domain.
I wanted to keep my old domain but I've had enough battling for it.

So could you help me choose another one?
I've been searching for available domains for hours now and all the good ones are already taken (even some really bad ones too. :P )

But I need a really good and tacky name and domain for my company.
I need something that'll stand out (as well as be available for registration). I'm going to carry on thinking...but if you have any suggestions please post them below. I'd be most grateful.

In case you're wondering, the company listed in my signature is the company name I wanted to transfer across.
The one they are refusing to let me transfer. It's a real shame as I really liked that name. And I need a .com domain by the way guys.

unless I have been with them for 6 months or more.

Are you sure that's not 60 days? Transfers are not allowed within 60 days of registration. It's an ICANN regulation, and not your provider's fault.

No. They clearly said 6 months.
I've spoken to my colleague about this.

What we are going to do is bring one of our old domains back to life. I have already attempted to mass mail our existing 3-4 customers. Our old provider have locked us out. Simply for the fact I filed a complaint against them.

To be honest I'm having a very tough day today. I'm trying to get my existing clients transferred across to the new server. But to do that I will need SSH access on my old account. Then WHM will transfer everything for me.

I do not have SSH access and they won't provide me with it either. The only other way, of course, is to transfer them manually. But I am totally locked out. And I don't understand why they have done this. I have not violated any rules. I simply filed a complaint against them and they didn't like that. I honestly haven't violated any rules so they have no excuse to lock me out. This is really causing massive problems.

We are going to be bringing back a company we used to run called Infinite Webspace. This company, I'm sorry to say, suffered problems also. The company that used to provide us with our reseller account back then went bust. And when we contacted them about it we never got a reply. So yeah. That's twice we've died. And both times were annoyingly out of our control.

That is why I've finally gone ahead and bought my own dedicated server. I am sick to death of having to take responsibility for the sincere carelessness of other service providers. I'm not at all saying that other service providers are careless, but the ones we've done business with in the past certainly were. We need to start choosing our business partners more carefully.

Well if we actually get through this issue and get our service back up and running on our own server then we should hopefully never have these problems again. This time we manage the servers. So we can't blame other companies for all the issues. And there won't be any issues. Because I know for certain that I will not tolerate laziness from my staff. If the server goes down I expect it to be rebooted. Not told in an email that they'll sort it out when they bother to get round to it.

Yes, the expenses have sure gone up. But in the long run I think it's worth it. No more nonsense! We're in control now! Well, fingers crossed all issues are at an end!

Not a good day today! Not good at all! :(

I'm very sorry to hear that Zack, but with what company are you ? write the link here so everyone can now how "good" they are.
I'm sorry but I can't help you with a domain idea, I've spent a few days for mine :|. But I do think infinitewebspace is a very good domain, if I had the chance to get it I would.

Okay the company I had problems with call themselves Reseller Rocket.

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post the link so just google Reseller Rocket. They are awful! Never host with them!

Now I'm having a few issues configuring nameservers in my new server. I think I'm going to have a rest and take a break.
I will have another look into things tomorrow morning.
Things aren't going well...and they are not going to get any better with me ranting and raving.

But yeah. Today has not been a good day. :(

If it's a new registration, then for most TLDs it's locked from transfer to another registrar for at least 60 days - although 6 months seems "odd" as a period - was this a domain they gave you free ?

What annoys me even more still is that I paid 123-reg to transfer the domain and they are unable to do so because it is locked.
You should have made sure it was unlocked and you had the EPP *before* attempting to transfer to anyone

Anyway your solution is simple - change the nameservers on the existing domain and carry on using it, then transfer to another registrar when able to do so.

No it was not free. I paid $12.95 for it.
And I've brought one of my old domains back to life.
From now on I will be using Infinite Webspace instead of Spider Webspace.
I couldn't update the nameservers as they locked me out of the panel simply for filing a complaint against them.
Yesterday was just problem after problem I'm sad to say.
I just hope things will settle down soon and everything will start to get back into rhythm again. :)
