My boy is back. So am I.

I owe you an explanation on my 5 week absence. I am not going to get into any details or specifics—those are reserved for a very narrow circle, for now.

On March 22, my 3-year old son was admitted into ICU in critical condition. Besides a complete shock and confusion, for the first time in my life I felt truly afraid and helpless (I am not sure which one is worse). There was no warning sign, no cause. This came out of nowhere. At the time the doctors would describe his state as severe and his diagnosis rare. It took at least a week of intense procedures and aggressive treatment—which included multiple blood plasma exchanges—for him to finally get stable. I am eternally thankful for the phenomenal team of doctors, nurses and staff at Montreal's Children Hospital for giving my wife and I the gift of being able to be with our little boy again.

As his central nervous system came under attack, we are looking at a very long treatment road ahead, with, unfortunately, an uncertain outcome. But while he continues to go through treatment and I am with him most of the time, now that he is stable and is able to enjoy a home environment, I wanted to let you all know that I will be finding more time to dedicate to our community again.

I know it is a lot of work sometimes, so I wanted to thank my team here at HD that took care of things while I was away, physically and mentally. I love you guys.
