Migrating from cPanel to DirectAdmin: Your Experiences?

Hello everyone! Considering the changes in cPanel’s pricing, I’m thinking about moving to DirectAdmin. Has anyone here made this switch recently? I’d love to hear about your transition experiences, particularly any challenges you faced and how you overcame them. Is the cost saving worth the effort?

I will suggest to stay for the meantime with cPanel. As others are not panels are not doing well at this moment.

You most likely won't encounter any issues and the switch is worth it. However, if you have a large number of users to transfer from cPanel to DirectAdmin, it could pose a challenge. Some users may not be pleased with the change in the control panel, so I suggest informing them beforehand. This way, if they are not comfortable with the switch, they can move their website to another provider.

Migrating from cPanel to DirectAdmin can be a significant change, offering better performance, cost-effectiveness, and a simpler user interface. DirectAdmin is lighter and faster, especially on lower-end servers, and has a dedicated support team and community forums.

I made the jump from cPanel to DirectAdmin last year and overall it was smoother than I expected. Biggest plus was definitely the cost saving, especially with their per-domain licensing model if you're running a lot of accounts.
Only real hiccup was the initial learning curve for some of my users — DA’s interface is clean but feels a bit different if you’re used to cPanel’s layout. Took a day or two for everyone to get comfortable. Importing existing sites wasn't too bad using their migration tools, though I did have to manually tweak a couple DNS zones and PHP settings after the move. If you're doing this for cost reasons (and not just on a whim), I’d say it's worth it — especially if you're self-hosting or with a smaller provider.
