managed hosting

I don't think that you can call 'managed' plan which has only control panel. And customers mostly understand it

I haven't run across anyone yet who didn't understand the difference between having a control panel and buying managed services. They may not know the depth of what is being managed. :)

It is important to consider managed web hosting instead of the free one. Managed web hosting will provide with all the necessary features when it comes to smooth functioning of the website. The best part of managed web hosting is that in case there is any issue with the website, it is managed right away so that downtime can be avoided.

What would be the reason for calling a traditional shared hosting plan "managed?" The OP puts it this way:

  • The ValueHost Manged Website lets you deploy your website easily and reliably
  • Our exclusive ValueHost Panel gives you simple web-based administration of your website
  • No configuration to worry about with our Managed Solutions. Let a ValueHost team member take care of everything

In the world of shared web hosting offering managed service is just a marketing device since those services are already included under no name. Nothing wrong with that....I might use it myself.

Not only do they help you save time to dedicate to other business ventures - they also can be available when you aren't. For example if your server goes down in the middle of the night you don't want to have to wait until you wake up to see what the issue is.

Managed hosting not only saves time but helps those that don't quite have the knowledge. Sure you can go shared hosting, but if you grow out of it?

Time to get a VPS / Dedicated Server and here's where management kicks in.

Yes, managed services ease the clients save their time & energy. Most of the hosting providers attract clients by offering Managed Plans :)

Indirectly speaking, he's advertising I believe..

Aren't you?

He has already addressed it:

My intention was to get some insight into the experiences people have had with Managed hosting services. The idea of Managed hosting can vary from person to person. Some consider managed hosting to mean that they have access to a control panel, some think it specifically means cPanel, others find that they must have automated software installation like wordpress, drupal, ect. while others are happy with just a web interface to file management so they don't have to mess with FTP.

I had hoped to get some industry sharing on this topic since this community includes both customers and providers of managed hosting.

Art I agree with you and it looks like the posts Simple3x has made have all be very short so that he could post count in order to advertise

managed hosting is the right choice for those who hasn't enough knowledge in server administration and doesn't want to spend long hours in learning how to configure mail server or smth else. Mostly managed support option include such features as OS setup and tuning, installation of mail/ftp/web/mysql server, server monitoring.

In most cases i agree, but like me, I can configure servers etc., but i would rather pay the small additional cost of a managed server ( in case i need their assistance on anything), than have to pay for a full time system admin or a retainer for a system admin that you may never use
