Made a free, open-source cPanel alternative - happy to help with setup/migration

Hi everyone,

I'm Khaled, the maintainer of GoAdmio, a free, open-source Linux web hosting control panel (a cPanel alternative). The code is on GitHub:
https://github.com/goadmio

I'm not here to sell anything — the project is free. I just wanted to offer help to anyone in the Help section who's:

Looking for a free cPanel alternative
Trying to migrate from cPanel (full backup restore is supported)
Stuck on server setup, SSL, email, DNS, or PHP version issues
It runs on AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux, Debian, and Ubuntu, and needs a clean OS install with root SSH access. The project is newly public on GitHub — I'm actively building it out and welcome feedback and issues.
If you're working through a problem and GoAdmio might fit, drop your question here or reply to a thread and I'll do my best to help. Happy to answer technical questions about the panel or the migration process.

Thanks for the curiosity!

My benefit is simple: I was paying $20/mo per server for cPanel just to host a few sites. For hosting companies with 10 servers that's $2400/year for nothing.

I built GoAdmio so small VPS owners (like me) can manage websites without breaking the bank. Plus, it's fun to build stuff that helps people 😊

No hidden agenda, no ads, no tracking. It's just a tool I wish existed when I started hosting.

Well, if that's the case, then it's very cool!

GoAdmio Lite — a free cPanel alternative that actually fits on a 1GB VPS
Been testing GoAdmio Lite for a while now and figured I’d share, since most control panels assume you have way more RAM than a cheap VPS actually gives you.
What is it?
GoAdmio is a free, open-source Linux web hosting control panel (a cPanel alternative). It comes in two flavors:
Full — built for hosting providers running many accounts/clients
Lite — built for small VPS instances
Why Lite is the one to try on a small box:
If you’re running a 1GB or 2GB VPS — the kind you grab for $3–5/month — the full panel is overkill. Lite is the version aimed at exactly that case, and it’s the one I’d recommend if your main workload is WordPress sites.
That covers a lot of people:
Personal blogs and small business sites
A handful of WordPress installs on one VPS
Dev/staging boxes
Side projects where you don’t want to pay for a control panel license
Install (Lite):
bash
curl -s -o latest -L https://download.goadmio.com && chmod +x latest && ./latest lite
Run it as root on a clean OS install. Supported: AlmaLinux 9/10 (recommended), Rocky 9/10, Debian 11/12/13, Ubuntu 22–26 (64-bit).
Demo first if you want to look before you leap:

Suggested partition layout (from the docs):
/boot — 500 MB
swap — 2× RAM if under 2GB, equal to RAM for 2–8GB, at least 4GB above that
/ — rest of the drive
A few things I’d flag before you install:
Test on a disposable VM or snapshot first. Don’t run a new panel install straight onto a live production server.
The installer downloads and runs a remote file as root — that’s normal for panel installers, but verify the source/checksum where you can, and don’t run it on a box you don’t control.
Firewall the admin panel (port 2020) and webmail (port 2025). Put them behind TLS/VPN and restrict source IPs if possible.
Back up before any /go/... command. Most of them run as root and some are destructive (zone reset, encoder, force SSL).
Some migration commands in the docs take the remote root password as a CLI argument — that ends up in shell history. Use SSH keys where you can.
TL;DR:
Small VPS (1–2GB) + WordPress → Lite
Hosting provider with many clients → Full
Anyone else running Lite on a 1GB box? Curious what your RAM usage looks like after a few WordPress sites.
