I think that the name PayPal is becoming more widespread; and consumer confidence is growing (whether or not that's justified, I don't know, since I don't know how PayPal's security works; but the concept is in place.) Or maybe it might be more accurate to say that lack-of-consumer-confidence in PayPal is shrinking.

The company's grown, they've added more services, the merge with eBay didn't go as horridly as some had feared, they've got a decade of name recognition. That's a fairly strong arsenal.

I am surprised you are having a problem. Most hosts accept PayPal as well as Credit Cards. To me PayPal is simple, and for smaller hosts they don't have the expense of a merchant account, payment processor fees, SSL certificates, etc. since the info is all on PayPal's end. When a customer orders using a CC our payment processing company has all their info and their payment occurs automatically (the card is charged every month unless they cancel). When they pay with PayPal we have a "you've got cash" e-mail from PayPal and have no way of knowing if they used a CC, or or what to fund it. Then they get an invoice every month and have to go to their PayPal account to pay it. Some people prefer one over the other. The only problem we have had is a couple of PayPal customers who went on extended vacations or whatever and didn't check their e-mail and pay the bill then wondered why their account was suspended when they got home (after a grace period most hosts will suspend accounts for non-payment).
The only thing to watch for is a lot of "kiddie" hosts using ONLY PayPal because they are 13 and can't get any other form of payment account and some "scam" companies that use PayPal because they can grab the money & disappear without the records of a CC processor (usually "too good to be true" offers of BW and Storage and wanting you to pay for a year up front or such)
Good luck, you shouldn't really have any trouble.

PS: You have already learned the other lesson. ALWAYS start with monthly until you have been with a host for a long enough time you completely trust them and are satisfied 100%.

We often hear in forums horror stories about customers being charged by their host after their account termination. Make sure that if you do paypal, you did not sign up for a suscription because you will have the same issue and the host will blame you for not cancelling the suscription in your own paypal account. Personally we accept paypal with no suscriptions because we believe that the customer will make the necessary step in order to keep their account(s) active.

Regards

I agree here. Not only do we encourage the client to cancel their own subscriptions (we used to take them so we have a few left on subscription payments), but we no longer take subscription payments, for this very reason.

Almost all web hosting directories show which payment methods each web host accept.

For example click the link below to see how www.************** shows a web hosting company's profile and which payment methods it accepts.

Profile of a Sample Company
http://www.**************/company_details.asp?id=90

You can also request quotes for YOUR specific needs using the hosting quote providers such as:

www.HostQuote.com or
www.**************

After you select a few hosts, you can read reviews on them from
www.WebHostingTalk.com --> it is the best place to find customer reviews

Thank you tilcotil for mentioning us as one of the options that potential hosting customers may use.

As most people said, paypal is easy and secure to use.
It also provides advantage to hosting companies as well, because many companies suffer from fraud credit card purchases and increasing amounts of chargebacks... Paypal looks like a good alternative for fraud credit card usage.

Like others have said, some hosts don't advertise that they accept paypal, but you should ask them. Most do - some might give you a hard time but it's worth a try.

exactly many hosts do offer PayPal but may not let you know ahead of time. Find a couple of hosts you like and ask them if they will accept. Some hosts also accept month to month but they may want you to eventually do yearly. Just make sure they dont try and trick you into paying monthly and then they put you to yearly.

Hostburst.com has excellent service and support and does offer paypal. You might want to check them out.
BHNSupport, any chance of providing the site url you have hosted with them, etc?

I think that many of the big hosting companies are starting to use paypal as ecery one has in account... Look at godaddy.com 50% increas in sales....

I think the increase in Godaddy sales has a lot more to do with their Superbowl advertising and other campaigns than it does with the fact that they started to accept Paypal as a payment method.

It is so true. The Superbowl ad really helped them spread the name. However, not to say that PayPal did not have any impact on their sales... I own about 80 domains (half of which are with GoDaddy, half with NameCheap), so when they introduced PayPal, I transfered the other half to them to keep them under single roof. That doubled their sales right there from single customer. :)
