Ok, here you go.

1.) This is a FREE hosting site that allows to you create 5 websites. (I believe that you can use their sub-domains for FREE. They do allow you to use a domain that you would have to pay for as well.) It also has a Site Builder program with templates. Looks like a good place for the new person to start.

2.) Here is another FREE site that is straight up NO FRILLS. If you are new to this, you will need to do some learning at other places in order use this service. (But it seems pretty robust for a free site. The BIG plus though, NO AD BANNERS required!! A lot of free sites will require you to have ad banners on the pages of your site.)

I am NOT affiliated with these sites. I signed up for the Yola site, but found a way to get PAID hosting before I actually setup a site with them. I may use them for testing site ideas before spending the money to put them up on dedicated IP hosts.

Space and bandwidth needs will depend on what type of site you are wanting to build. A file sharing site or forum will usually require more bandwidth & space than say a Blog site.

This link may help give you some better answers to your questions: http://www.gobblerhosting.com/disk-space.php

Domain Name:

Again, the type of site you are making would be a factor here. Buying a unique .com domain that is relevant to your what your site is about is usually your best bet. BUT, if you are just starting out with no money a Sub-Domain will be fine. (You must have SOME type of domain for you site. A domain name is linked to an IP address. This is like your mailing address. It tells people and search engines WHERE your website is. So, to answer your question, YES you do need some type of Domain Name.)

@ the OP, the HD owner uses this site http://www.handsonwebhosting.com/ according to his post in here. It looks to be a solid reputable hosting site with reasonable fees.

I just found this site that supports BB as well and seems to have a pretty decent pricing plan http://www.justhost.com/premium-hosting-features (Again, I can GUARANTEE you that I am NOT affiliated with ANY of the sites I posted here.)

One of them would I not recomend. Do you know which one?

Re

I would like to suggest you look for those hosting provider that really know your hosting requirements in details. For your information, forum sites can consumes much more server resources than others normal sites. Therefore, two ways communications is needed before you sign up any hosting packages. Semi Dedicated server may be suitable to your forum site as the number of hosting account per server is lesser than others.

I agree with this answer & for my opinion i recommended you bluehost web host. They offer good web host services with 24/7 chat support.

Agreed with the above, any good shared host should be able to handle those-personally I would recommend SMF over PHPBB for a free forum, it's cool and uses less resources (phpbb has TONS of add-ons but some can turn your forum into a resource hog. SMF has a few bad add-ons too but the basic forum is more efficient.

But any good shared host should be able to handle you until you get REALLY big.

Hello,
You will want to pick a good reliable hosting company, because this can make the difference between making or breaking your business. There is nothing worse than having potential customers come and visit your site, and finding out that it is down yet again. I have had this happen to me. I found out that they were in the process of moving to different servers. This did not help me. I was never warned that this would be happening, and it took their support desk over 24 hours to inform me that this is what happened. Needless to say, I went out looking for another host. We cannot afford for this to happen. We should have been warned about the move and the support desk should have responded to me much more quickly.

I've been with ************* for 5 months and I'm so satisfied. I really recommend them personally.

They treat me well and their service ranks as the best for me.

I am currently with HostGator and *************.

Both are pretty good but I was actually pretty surprised at the latter.

The service is just head and shoulders above HostGator in terms of what I get and what I pay. (Pay less with ************* and got more!)

PHPBB is most widely used Open Source forum solution and its more customized.

Hi All,
I want to build a forum and not sure if my curren web hosting provider would support a forum application such as phpBB or V-Bulletin. So I tried to installed phpBB first as it is free just to test my web hosting service. They have prooved to be not only a provider who does not want to help but also has caused some problems in my mysql data which I cannot trust them to host my forum. So, if you are having good experience with your providers and have set up V-Bulletin or phpBB forum successfully, please let me know.
Thanks

Most hosting with cpanel should allow this no problems. Free hosting.. i doubt it tho.

In my point of view: these are somethings you may want to look for in a hosting company.

Reliability and speed of access-They should have at least have 99% uptime
Bandwidth allotment-Some host may use bandwidth cap to limit the transfer of a specified speed so make sure to test the bandwidth before purchasing the hosting account
Backup- Backup and recovery is one of the most important aspects of hosting. If a server crashed and there should be latest backup to restore it.
24/7 Customer Technical Support/Phone support/Chat support- technical support should be delivered over the telephone or online by e-mail or a web site or throught chat
