Hi All,
I want to build a forum and not sure if my curren web hosting provider would support a forum application such as phpBB or V-Bulletin. So I tried to installed phpBB first as it is free just to test my web hosting service. They have prooved to be not only a provider who does not want to help but also has caused some problems in my mysql data which I cannot trust them to host my forum. So, if you are having good experience with your providers and have set up V-Bulletin or phpBB forum successfully, please let me know.
Thanks

Most professional web hosting providers shouldn't have an issue with forum hosting. Obviously a lot depends on the size and level of activity, but if you are just starting up - any respectable company should cover your needs. I also don't see a problem with trusting them with your data, as long as you perform regular backups of it yourself.

I am very happy with our provider www.handsonwebhosting.com that hosts this particular vBulletin forum.

Hi!
Good??? Well..hmm. How good? :)

Ugh. Forums are like any other high-load script..they each have the potential to overload any shared host server.

I've never had anything like that..but..I did find something interesting the other day:

http://www.certifiedhosting.com

Look at this:

http://certifiedhosting.com/protection/

I've never seen anything like this..but..it makes perfect sense.

>>>>I should say the dedi prices really were not anything I could afford..but..at least it was available.

Anyway...I would look around and find someone who can provide you with a dedicated IP..and a decent shard account to start out on. Now..there are some if you outgrew the shared server...that could simply make mods at the switch and presto! You could be upgraded to a dedi with no downtime!

That's the way I would do it. :)

I would like to suggest you look for those hosting provider that really know your hosting requirements in details. For your information, forum sites can consumes much more server resources than others normal sites. Therefore, two ways communications is needed before you sign up any hosting packages. Semi Dedicated server may be suitable to your forum site as the number of hosting account per server is lesser than others.

Small question though since I'm new here. Is this the wrong section to ask for hosting?

MOD NOTE: Edited for self-promotion.

Not if it the original poster is asking for recommendations. But it is the wrong forum to make offers or promote your company though. :)

What sort of requirements do you have (budget, features, etc.)? This will help us to point you in the right direction

You may make a comparison to all the web hosting company that is the way to see their website to get complete information about all their services including pricing, packages, and what promotions are running ... Or, and this could menanyalan through forums and usually many people who provide information about web hosting company.

Thanks and hope it can be useful.

At first when you are small HostGator will suit you very well. Then you will have to move to a reliable VPS or even Dedi. I yet have to kick-start my SEO forum so at the moment I host it with HG. I have to mention that there are other a little bit more active forums I host with HG.

Maybe my answered like a marketing, but that's my job. for the good I would offer products company, you can assess what features kvchosting offered. for vBulletin or phpbb both were united in the service of our features. kvchosting even set you free to explor which is better for you to avoid regret you and we are ready to help..

Well I recommend http://4goodhosting.com because of there great service and support. You can trust them as they are in business for 9 years. I've had my account with them for about 4 years now, and they are really inexpensive $4.45/month + Get a FREE DOMAIN.

Good web hosting service

I always prefer to choose cheap, fast and stable web hosting. For a great service and round the clock support, I chose http://www.maximumbit.com You can reap maximum benefits from it. You need to just login and enjoy the benefits of their services.

What is your URL that you host with the company?
And since when was cloud computing cheap?

Cloud computing has never been cheap unless you were under selling. :P

Any professional and reliable web host should be able to support forum software such as phpBB, SMF, vBulletin, IPB etc. I recommend you transfer to another web host if you can't trust your current provider, a client should always be able to trust their host.
