I've noticed recently there seem to be a much larger amount of domains that are somewhat long being used than what I noticed before. Do you believe that a long domain name can have a negative impact even if it is something memorable? I'm looking to purchase a few, one for a blog in particular and the domain I had chosen initially is somewhat long. Any thoughts?

Long domains with many hyphens look quite spammy to me, especially in search engine results.
If it's a proper name, you can consider purchasing the full version and an abbreviated one.

I have noticed the same. I think all the good, short ones are gone. It does create a barrier for people to return to your site if it is hard to remember.
I think if the name flows, it's fine - within reason.

damn...that is a long domain. I could not remember it and wouldn't go back to the site.
If I see an especially long domain in the results of a search, or anything with more than one hyphen, I instantly get the exact same feeling I get when I find that a spam email has somehow found its way into my regular inbox. That's not the sort of feeling I would want directed toward my own websites, so I keep the names short.

IMO it still good especially if you've a branded website and you're just using that domain name to brand your site using your trademark slogan, you can use that site for placing the coupon/discount and latest offers there.
Example for Nike slogan Justdoit....
Nokia: ConnectingPeople....
Motorola's slogan... IntelligenceEverywhere....

For long domains you should always use hyphens or have a redirect where you register a bunch of domains that are similar.

Try your best to get a dot-com. Use other extensions as a last resort. (Unless, for instance, you are in the UK where the .co.uk extension has become fairly well known.)

My opinion is that the length of a domain name is not important at all if you are targeting a keyword in it. On the other hand if you're building a site that must have memorable name for people to remember than it's better to have shorter name.
Too over the top for me, but maybe not for others. :twocents:
Yes that is way too much for me. No way I'd go back like I said some of them are just a bit much and I can hardly remember one (-) let alone THAT many. :twocents: too
