Linux or Windows?

Linux is generally better in my opinion.. Windows can be suitable for some apps and if you need to work with some certified stuff.

Linux is cost effective. While windows is not i think thats the big difference. Plus linux is almost virus free and easy to manage once configured.

Overall I think Linux is best by far...

It actually depends on the type of application you want to run , if you're wanting to
run .net or asp type applications then windows would be your best option. PHP & MySQL is probably better suited for Linux. If you are not going to use Microsoft proprietary software (Access, msSQL, ASP.NET) then go with Linux as they are proven to be more reliable and secure.

Actually it depends on which coding language is used to develop a site. Mostly linux is used because its cheap and most reliable.

I would always choose a Linux server, not because they're more secure, just that the virus writers haven't really paid much attention to Linux. I have seen large sites use Microsoft servers and at the slightest sneeze you will get an error to say the server has too much traffic or a file has gone awol or corrupted.

Microsoft servers are ok for office based functions.

The best reason for using Linux is to get to work with a more robust, stable and secure operating system. If you're using Microsoft Windows to do general things (using the internet, word processing, storing your photos, listening to music),using Linux would be much easier. But if your working with windows specially on livelihood purposes you have to to some inventory for the program you use.Programs that are use in windows won't work automatically on Linux.
