Life is unpredictable.

So it was a very nasty and painful week for me. On Monday, April 25, I went to the hospital with pain in my stomach (thought it was a virus). After 2 days of tests in the ER, surgeons were still puzzled by strange health condition of mine, but the final decision was made - I had Appendicitis, even though no traditional symptoms were present. After giving me the power of the decision: practically they told me: either we wait or we proceed with operation, my family and I decided to proceed, so Wednesday late night (April 27) I had an emergency surgery, which proved the doctors were right - I had a very serious case of Appendicitis.

I have just returned home, where I continue my recovery. Just wanted to share with everyone that you never know what's waiting for you around the corner in life. I will definitely be visiting HD more starting tomorrow when I feel better.

Best,

Art, it's a good thing you were in a position to get the quick treatment. Get well quickly. It's almost Summer tennis season.

Wow! Now that's a story all right. Weird how the symptoms didn't actually match the illness. Get well quickly Art!

I hope your recovery goes well. Wow, you really can't tell what life has in store for you. Good thing you caught it when you did!

Don't know how I missed this thread before ... but ...

Glad things got taken care of as quickly as they were Art. Heal up fast ;)

Your story is sooooo similar to when my appendiz went bad its scary ... except you got yours taken care of in 2 days. Mine went on for almost a month and ended up with me flying back to my hometown to see my family doc straight from the airport. Like you ... no traditional symptoms but he did a blood test and I was in the operating room an hour later ;) The docs in Saskatchewan (where I was living at the time) kept telling me the pains were all in my head ... morons ;)

Anyway ... feel better quick. Walking ... that helps more than you know ;)

Take care
Peter

Hey wow Art, I too did not notice this thread before.

I'm glad everything went okay for you Art. Appendicitis can be deadly. I'm sure we're all glad you were able to get it handled quickly, and making a nice recovery at home.

Get well Art.

After another 12 hours of sleep, I'm up again, walking around the house a bit.
Thank you for all the kind words you guys share - its incredibly sweet and supportive and it helps me feel better.

Michael, no tennis for me for at least 6 weeks, but watch out - I'll be VERY hungry when I get back. Especially that I have been injured on the side (inflammation of ligaments on my right wrist - I'm like 80 years old it looks...)

Peter, can't imagine you went through all that!! Why didn't they take the blood test before is puzzling, as it simply shows. In my case, however, they took 4 in the span of 2-day test event, but didn't find anything in the blood. In fact, the infection was getting better... Go figure.. I guess in the case with appendix you just have to take a chance most of the time.

Again, thanks everyone for kind words. I had a difficult case, but I will get better finally.

Best,

That's the part that perplexes me the most. Appendicitis is (normally) pretty routine in terms of diagnosis/treatment. Very weird that they couldn't diagnose it right away.

Nonetheless, good to hear all went well and you're on the mend, Artashes. Just think. Once you're strong enough to get back onto the tennis court, you'll be a 1/2 pound lighter (I'm approximating the weight of an appendix), so you'll be that much more limber and agile and responsive to your opponent. He won't know what hit him!!!

Oh, and dubs, careful what you wish for. Knowing Artashes personally, he is very competitive. Do you really want him coming down stateside to kick some US a$$???

Andy Roddick, watch the hell out!!

Thanks Vito. Hopefully I'll go down to Toronto for a couple of days this summer - we should get together for a drink. Better yet, we'll make another party going on.
