Is there a way to look up the company that owns a 1-800 number?

Quick question about 1-800 toll free numbers.

If you already have a 1-800 number, is there a way to tell which phone company or carrier provides it? Is there a public lookup or database that shows the underlying provider, or is that information not really accessible?

Just trying to understand how transparent toll free number ownership is.

It's possible to find out, but I don't think it's reliable. I believe the only thing we could know is which company manages it. There are lookup tools that allow you to see which carrier administers it, but even then, we don't know the end customer.

Look, I have an app on my phone called Truecaller. I don't know if you're familiar with it, but it only gives me access to comments from other customers, who basically report their experiences, and that way you get a little insight into who the end owner is.

But I can't think of any other way.

I've heard of it, and I've used similar web-based apps that function in a similar way. It doesn't give you a definite answer and you depend on chance that someone would comment on a particular number, but it's better than nothing.
