Is reseller hosting still a real business in 2026?

I see a few arguments on the subject happening and thought it'd be a very fair question to ask whether reseller hosting is still a viable way in, or whether that door is mostly closed now. Especially with license costs rising, AI builders and free tiers everywhere.

I've seen people argue both sides, so, if you are running a reseller business today, is it growing, flat, or shrinking? If it's working well, what do you think the main reason is: niche focus, support, bundling or something else?

And here is one more very telling question. If you were starting this year with no customers, would you still pick reseller hosting?

It'd be great to hear from people who started recently, not just the veterans.
 
We are waiting for their responses to understand, but by the way, using AI in Reselling can be useful. If you set up the AI agents correctly, it could turn into a very cool and automated business.

Even though I am against using AI constantly and everywhere, in this specific case, it could be quite profitable.
 
I don't like using AI at all, especially on support.
For me, it's always better if a real human answers customers' questions

As per reseller Hosting, yes, it's still an option, especially if you are starting a hosting business but don't have too much capital to invest.
 
It's still relevant, still people are purchasing reseller hosting to host their clients, it's doesn't require licensing, lot of investment.
 
Reseller hosting & Shared hosting is still around, but it’s the lowest‑profit tier in the industry, especially with cPanel prices climbing. It works if you’re niche or bundling services, but generic shared/reseller hosting has basically become a race to the bottom.

If I were starting today with zero customers, I wouldn’t choose reseller hosting as my entry point. It’s fine for small sites or as an add‑on, but not a strong foundation for a new hosting business.

It's really unpleasant to have a deal with AL instead of a human being.

Yes, that's why we are humans.. It always feel a connection.

And sometimes, if support is polite and helpful, we still want to stick with the company and give them another chance, even if they have done something messy and taken time to fix it.

But the case is completely different if the agent is an AI
 
Reseller hosting can still be viable if you find the right angle. I started out focusing on a specific niche and bundling great support, which helped.
