Is MCP Hosting the Next Big Opportunity for Hosting Providers?

I recently found this interesting project:

https://github.com/mikelavrik/mcp-hosting-providers

It lists hosting and cloud providers that support MCP (Model Context Protocol), a technology that helps AI assistants connect with applications, databases, and other services.

As AI adoption grows, businesses will need reliable infrastructure to run and manage MCP servers. This could create new opportunities for hosting providers, much like managed WordPress and cloud hosting did in the past.

With increasing costs for hardware, power, security, and IPv4 addresses, offering AI-related services may help providers stand out in a crowded market.

What do you think? Is MCP hosting a niche trend, or could it become a major hosting service in the coming years?

I'll admit that I don't know a ton about MCP, but isn't the "P" in MCP is Protocol, so isn't that the same as HTTP, FTP, SMTP and others that are simply rules or protocols on how a connection is made and what is expected etc?

MCP may standardize how AI systems talk to different software and connections to tools, etc., but I don't see how this would become its own hosting environment as such - maybe being used as a relay?

I guess you could setup a server that monitors and provides authentication between the software and the AI agents, but it's just a passthrough area - at least that's how I see it.

Take WordPress, for example; they have their own MCP as part of the software, and that is essentially the gateway to the site. The only thing I could see MCP Hosting doing would be a hop in the middle for authentication as to who can access the MCP with the host - it would act like a standalone firewall on a separate box.

That's how I see it, but as I said, I don't know a ton about MCP, so how do you see it working @Zen_Viju ?
