Is bluehost right for me?

Hey guys,

I'd like to know of Bluehost is right for me. I get about 2000 unique views per day and around 8000 page views most days. How's the support there? Do they oversell?

What are your thoughts? My primary traffic comes from the US.

Thanks,

Bjørn Élca

Pretty much your decision.
They lie about what they offer but if it's what you are comfortable with they go with them.
Your site based on what you present doesn't have very high needs so most shared hosting would be fine.
Bluehost offers a lie. They are not honest when they claim to have unlimited disk space and bandwidth.
I personally would not do business with any entity that is dishonest.

Do not go with Bluehost. They oversell so you should stay away from them. A host who oversells is a host you should not go with. Go with honest hosts who charge a fair price for what they offer.

I would get a real host, however if your set with an unlimited host I would also check out Chimehost since they're offering a free month at the moment.

What drew you to BlueHost? Did you have any other providers on your short list?

If you are running dynamic content (forums, blogs, cms) I wouldn't even consider Bluehost as an option as more then likely they will shut you down for using too many server resources.

From my own personal experience, I do not view Bluehost as a quality hosting company. Even for my very modest hosting needs they failed to provide even adequate service. Do yourself a favor and keep on looking until you find a quality hosting company.

While I would still say that there are some far worse hosts than Blue Host out there, they are still not very honest with their customers, and the overselling is definitely a big turn-off to many potential customers, and quite rightfully so, as who likes to be lied to, especially from a web host that we are relying on to deliver as promised?

there are many hosts that offer unlimited space. for being honest to this forum members, there will be a limit for certain host to provide hosting service.
but for those hosting provider that able to manage "limited service" and offer to the clients as unlimited will be go around for a while. but for the years to years to run, there will be little or some problem dealing with this kind of "unlimited" host. So it is wise to choose a host that give you reasonable price and obvious bandwith and space with honest and decent support.

Worse case scenario they do have a money back policy, so if you're dead set on them and it turns out they're not working for you there's no loss to you.

I assume that you need to convert all the requests you have to the web hosting related ones. What I mean: you need to shift from the number of web sites to the disk space and from the number of the visitors to the bandwidth. In this case your question will be more correct and you will have more relevant answers.
Hope that helps

While many hosts claim to offer unlimited space and bandwidth, that still doesn't make it right, regardless of how many different hosts are doing it or not. Every time I see a host trying to oversell, I frankly get disguisted. While I understand they are just trying to attract more customers, anyone with web hosting experience would know that claims of unlimited ANYTHING would be nothing more than a load of hot air.

If you google around for reviews, it appears that there are a few complaints about accounts being shutdown for excessive resource usage.
If you are planning to take up an account with them, better find out from them what the criteria are for shutting down an account for excessive resource usage.

Unlimited databases, emails, etc? What about those offers?

In fact every shared hosting has its own limit in secret, maybe the cpu occupancy rate, maybe the the maximum allowed connections or Database connections. So don't trust the unlimited diskspace or unlimited traffic. Remember the shared hosting is shared hosting.

The hostmonster is a bluehost subsidiary, and cheaper than the bluehost , the hostmonster hosting plans have competitive power, but the hostmonster hasn't windows hosting

BTW you can try the GoDaddy shared hosting too

Im not yet sure on this, not sure if anyone else is ether but we offer "unlimited" database's/email accounts, subdomains and the likes as do almost everyone else although the only restriction on this is the size of your package a.k.a if you had say 1gb diskspace you couldent have two email accounts with 2gb inbox's each..

i dont in anyway agree with the terms unlimited or unmetered in bandwidth or diskspace as this is overselling however i am yet undercided for subdomains, databases and email for example as these all have the physical limitations of the package the customer agrees to.

Where are you in the decision process currently? Did you go with BlueHost?

I'd like to know, of all the individuals who've said "don't go with BH" in these forums, how many have actually had an account with them?

As stated in other topics, I worked for BH/HM up until 2 years ago. I had many discussions with CEO Matt Heaton about overselling, etc as I once had a strict biased against it. To each his own, but when it comes down to it, it's all about the end result, the customer's experience. Anything other than that is hearsay & if you've ever played the game telephone you know things change in the transfer of information.

My point: Unless you have direct experience your opinions aren't of much help. And to anyone considering an overselling host, most have money-back terms, so just try them and find out directly for yourself if they meet you needs.

On another note, it was mentioned something of calculating websites x size & visitors to eq bandwidth.. Though you could through some very rough figures together, it's really not that simple. Not all visitors view your entire site, and traffic can be a roller coaster.. Best is to simply track your usage as you go..

I don't need direct experience with a host to know for a fact that they are lying if they offer unlimited resources.
This is a fact. PERIOD.

There is no ambiguity here and no experience required.

I don't care if it's bluehost or any other. They are liars if they offer unlimited services. Your experience with them doesn't change that fact.
