Increasing Google Rankings

Do organic (SEO optimized) websites that are highly relevant to the service or products that you offer tend to rank quicker?
Seems like a no brainer.

And would creating activity on that site by embracing social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) and incorporating a do-follow blog (moderating comments and disabling spam links) help?
How important is ACTIVITY?

Of course, tweak your site as needed.

If done properly, your website will not (realistically) leap to number one overnight but will rise in Google’s rankings over the first 30 to 90 days.
How realistic is this timeline?

One can’t provide a one-size-fits-all answer to your question because a rise in google ranking in the first 30 to 90 days depends on thousands of factors.

Some of the most important factors that affects one's ranking on Google are:
  1. A Secure and Accessible Website
  2. Keyword Competition
  3. Page Speed (Including Mobile Page Speed)
  4. Mobile Friendliness
  5. Domain Age, URL, and Authority
  6. Optimized Content
  7. Technical SEO
  8. User Experience
  9. Backlinks
  10. Social Signals

Here's the funny thing about SEO - you can rank within minutes or hours depending on how strong your website profile is and what you're trying to rank for.

Take this post for example. If you search google for "creating activity on that site by embracing social media" (with quotes so it's an exact match), you'll find that the post is already ranking in Google.

Now, would that be a phrase people would type? Probably not, but "ranking" and "ranking for the right words" are two completely different things.

According to a study on ranking factors by SEMrush, the top four factors are website visits, time on site, pages per session, and bounce rate, which are all important factors. All four of them have to do with the experience your website is giving your users, which Google recently stressed with its Page Experience update. People will visit your site more often if it's easy to use and has useful information. This will help you rise in the search rankings.
