ID Protection..

If customer has opted domain registration for minimum 2 years then offering ID protection free of charge for the first year is good idea.

that all depends on what profit margin you have for the domains and what the registrar charges you for ID protection.

example is we use resellerclub and to compete with the large domain providers we only add 50p to £1 on the price we pay for domains, but resellerclub charge £1.79 a year for Privacy Protection, so to offer this free even for 1 year would be a lose for us.

I'm always suspicious of domains with domain privacy, that said, we offer it for £5/year.

Yes. I like how Nominet work with all .uk domains in that if the domain is used commercially and taking money then domain privacy cant be enabled.

Just think Namecheap have always charged at $3.88 a year.

I never purchase anything from a site that has domain privacy enabled as you never know where they are from, so what are they hiding

We provide free whois privacy to make it attractive as we don't intend to make profit from domains, but we intend to make profit from different hosting services that client may buy along with domain

It all depends upon your business model and how you want to do it

Yes, fair enough not making a profit from domains, most likely what we add over the top of what we pay will mostly likely be taken up in payment processing fees, but no good offering ID protection for free if you get charged as this will end up costing your business.

We are getting free ID Protection so we pass it on to our clients

Even i did not got it earlier, but then i discussed it with my account manager and they agreed to waive the ID Protection fees

So they will be losing out or they charge OTT domain prices as it is ICANN that have insisted registrars now charge for ID protection.

This is to prevent scammers and fraudsters from taking advantage of free ID protection as most of these will not pay for anything
