HTML editor to use?

I use Dreamweaver for most things. I have also been known to use Expression Web Designer for some websites (In some cases i think its better than Dreamweaver - its like FP and DW combined)

I had been using NVU up until very recently, but then I discovered this independent variation of NVU that went under a different name, and I can't remember what it was for the life of me!

Anyway, NVU has always done most everything that I have needed.

While Dreamweaver is very nice, it is also very pricey.

I love topstyle, granted its a windows based program. It's got an almost adobe photoshop'esque setup to it, where you can view multiple windows. For instance, you can write your code in the top box, and view the outcome of it in the bottom box.

Can you by any chance tell me some more about it, and provide a link to their website?

Also is this a purchased commercial program, or is it shareware or Freeware?

I am always looking for new HTML editors to check out, and Topstyle sounds very interesting to me.

I haven't used it in a bit, but, it lets you edit many different types. Last time I used it, it was for XHTML, and it worked like a charm. It took me a while to really find a good non-mac based program that did this. It comes with a free two week trial I believe? You can also purchse the commercial license.

I normally handcode then run it through Dreamweaver for validation issues. I was lucky enough to get a good deal on it through upgrading, but its well worth it if you really use a HTML editor instead of handcoding.

Yeah, that's the build of NVU that I was talking about actually!

In addition to that, I believe NVU's creators were working on a direct successor to NVU, but nothing has been heard from them in a year or so now.

Microsoft Frontpage was the first editor I used because it came with the computer I had at the time. Before that, I coded everything by hand which was just ridiculously time-consuming and frustrating at times. Frontpage was like heaven for me and it's probably still good, but I've moved onto Crimson Editor and love it even more.

I use Microsoft Notepad myself. I've always been more of a keyboard person instead of a point and click person. I like to see the code work and when I make a change see what the change is. I've tried using FrontPage but just didn't care for it.

I use Notepad++. It's like plain ol' Notepad except it makes your code or markup a bit easier to understand.

I also use Notepad++, its free, small, effective and has many features compared to Notepad..

Another thing you might want to try is Firebug, with the Inspect Element tool you can edit right from your browser and see changes as you make them.
