Many webmasters are now trying to have their sites validated and in a process using vast range of HTML editors to make life easier.

Which HTML editor do you use and recommend?

No one uses a HTML editor?

I googled for a few but got confused as to which one would be worth using. Unfortunately, i don't have that much time testing each of them, so i was looking forward to select few may be if there isn't one best out there. :)

I get by using kompozer and metapad. I'm not a web designer and don't care much for the code validation stuff as long as the browsers manage to render the page the way I expect it to. :)

I have used notepad and NVu now. NVu seems fairly good for people like me. It doesn't validate pages fully, or atleast not in my case, but overall it has good features. I haven't had chance using Dreamweaver as it is a paid software and i am looking for free one for now.

bandboy - dreamweaver is still good editor.
just setup dreamweaver for a certain browser, so it makes easy for you to debug the script.
you may also logon to http://browsershots.org to check the compatibility of your site to different browsers.

Unfortunately, dreamweaver is little expensive. I can purchase it but then atleast i need to see how it works before spending money on it. Let me see, if they offer a trial version or not.

I am now using trial version of Dreamweaver and it looks great. If anyone is looking for good editors, try Dreamweaver. I may go in for purchasing one if i can't find a free one that gives me what Dreamweaver gives - comfortable editing :)

Well we are using FP but recently we discovered that FP sites does not look pretty on Firefox, sometimes it could be the technique your using. And we also tried using Coffee cup HTML editor and it was ok, but felt a bit odd after using FP for many years.

Crimson Editor/Frontpage

Crimson Editor is a very nice Notepad type editor but much easier to read than notepad since it color codes tags.
Frontpage is a easier to use editor and it can do everything all the others on the market does if you know how to use it.
Dreamweaver is good too if can learn all the features and how to use them, which if I had to choose from handcoding or Dreamweaver is easier just to handcode it in my opinion

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned 1st page 2006 from evrsoft. It's basically a free, scaled down version of dreamweaver. It's got a good number of features, but it's still fast, faster than dreamweaver in my case.

As far as text editors go, I've been using Editpad Lite for about 2 years on Windows. It's freeware, and a completely portable application.

I never use a software seperately for html, I use the html editor which is available along with cpanel's latest version. I think you dont need a seperate html editor for editting.
The most simple html editor you can have is notepad and IE opened simultaneously.
But my advise is to go for dreamweaver, in which you can not only edit html files but also many type of files.
